We had good luck with Gulp minnows - the small ones in the jar with liquid. On a small jig hook - we went to the far side - where there's a sandpile - and you could see bass and gills sitting on their beds within about 10 feet of shore. Some right up to the shore. The bluegills were suspended sometimes, but mostly the bass and the bigger gills were tight to the bottom. Didn't want to seem to come up and check things out.

But that may be the case all along the dike wall. I know there's lots of bluegills around the dock and swim area. And I have yet to get through to my son that the signs are there for a reason, and you're not allowed to fish there!

Had some bites on a yellow curly tail jig. Have had luck with a clear-w/sparkles curly tail also. Saw lots of rising along the south end - out from the swim-area.

I'd suggest using as small a bobber and light tackle as you can manage. They always seem to swipe at worms, but they can also clean your hook before you get a "real" bit.

You can see our "bag photos" - look for Bass Beds thread:

There were a couple gents fly-fishing, and seemed like every other cast they were pulling something in. Didn't see what kind of pattern they had on.

Buddy & I fished Mantua today (Tues) from 10-ish to 2-ish. No fish caught shallower than 14'. Boated largies on east side in 12-14" range, but a much bigger/heavier fish than the Pelican clan. Also caught one bluegill off rocks on west side and one big rainbow out from ramp. Pretty s-l-o-w reports from neighboring anglers. TONS of weeds floating to east side. Reminded me of Jordanelle's arm-sized driftwood. Have never seen so much. Was like a green oil spill. Lots of hook-ups on that stuff. Water temps a consistent 64-65 lakewide.
