I am thinking about picking up a new float tube outfit for high mountain lakes. The only float tubes I have owned were the circular ones; and after flipping in them once and losing a pole another time due to their design, I threw both away. I have a raft that is fun for 2 or 3 people out on these lakes but it is time to buy a new float tube setup.
So my question is, what is the best float tube set up for backpacking to high mountain lakes? Preferably a set-up that includes straps or the backpack but I could also buy a backpack to fit all the supplies if needed? Thanks.

Based on what you said I think you should look at the Outcast Trinity.

But round or donut tubes weigh light too and are worth consideration, especially on cost grounds.

I use an older Caddis Nav II because it is light - about 8 lbs. And I already have it. But with it I also sit down much lower in the water (colder).
It is similar to this one:

I like these nice light fins. They pack nice and flat.

The Outcast Trinity should have you sitting more out of the water.
I have also used the little "Trail Boats" , but they are pretty delicate and somewhat dangerous. - Use some kind of a life vest. With it you don't need fins and waders. Use a mesh bag full of rocks for an anchor.
Most of the time I skip the float tube, fish from shore, and at the most wade some areas. I am getting to be a real "ounce squeezer" when I hike!

Steve uses a ww grigs and I have and creek company ODC 420 light. We have backpacks we put our waders, boot, pumps, gear ect in... We hiked them into the boulders they weigh about 36 lbs.

just to mention, the odc429 light tube weighs in at 8 lbs, so I'd assume your 36lb weight is everything you're bringing?

For day hikes I just use my FC4. I have a set of Caddis backpack straps that really help a lot. I pack my waders, fins, lunch etc... into the seat of the tube that way I am only packing in one backpack. This has worked well for me on my Yellowstone trips where I usually hike 2-3 miles each way. I know it is not the lightest set up but it works great.
