Woke up this morning really wanting to go fishing, drizzling rain, didn't want to drag the boat out so I headed up Payson Canyon to one of my favorite lakes. Headed out about 9:00 am and hit the lake about 9:30. Fog was really settled in and light rain. A little water won't kill you so off I went to find a spot to fish. The lake as full as I have seen it in years, the quakes around the edges were 2-3 feet under water, my favortite rock to sit and fish on was 4' under. You could not see across the lake it was so foggy. I only brought some power bait because I just wanted to relax and fish. The fish were really rolling and I was sorry I didn't bring the spinner box. I fished for a few hours untill I was to soaked, and the fishing was slower than I thought it would be. only landed a few. Nevertheless, getting our to fish is always a great stress relief, the misty water, the soft drizzling rain and the smell of the wet forest was well worth the trip. Mark my word, i will return to that spot again very soon.

I grew up in Payson and I have some fond memories fishing that reservoir. On one particular trip, we caught some exceptionally large rainbow trout on small salmon egg hooks with a single Pautze Balls of Fire salmon egg.

Great report - are you still catching brook trout out of Box Lake? What a great place to fish.

Seems like the fishing is always good at those lakes. I was up there Memorial Day. Caught 20 in 3 hours on powerbait. They were hitting the spinners too.

Box usually gets drained so low that the fish don't survive the winter, however the big lake every now and again gives up a few really nice brooks, Maple lake, which is also a favorite also produces Brook Trout. I wished I would have taken the spiners yesterday, It was one of those days that were ideal to throw a spinner. The fish were boiling pretty good, however there was a bug hatch and the lake was covered so i am sure they had full bellies. If any of you want to try a great floattubing spot, the big lake at payson canyon is built for it!
