Went to Twin Lakes for a bit this afternoon. It really was a beautiful afternoon. A little windy at times, but still it was a very nice break from the horrible weather we have had all spring.
The lakes are about as full as they can get. The bank fishers are sitting in the road. The water is 60 degrees and I could see lots of fish on sonar, but we could only convince a couple of trout to bite. Still it was great to get out and float around even if the fish were thumbing their noses at us.

Thanks for posting,
If you don't mind, what did you use to coax the fish into biting?
I'm guessing with the heat coming on it will get mossy soon....

The weeds are still about 3 feet or better down. Twin usually has lots of open areas next to the weed beds, and most of the north lake is deep enough to be mostly clear. At least most of the areas we fish usually are.
The trout were smaller. They must have planted not to long ago. We used such a variety of flies that it is hard to say. I think mostly they were caught on different colors of woolly-buggers. We were trying to find some bluegills, crappie, perch etc. Never caught any so we kept trying different colors and types of flies etc while trying to tempt them. [:/]

Hi ,cpierce ,I was out there to in a small white boat .Glad you were able to stay on the lake, that wind got alittle ruff.Did your trout have any size to them? My boy and I got 31 blue gill and 1 crappie but it took all day 9-5. well your right it's great to get out and fish.

No, there was no size to the trout. They were planters.
Were you on the north or the south lake, and what were you catching the blue gills on? We couldn't find any, but as you said we were only there for 3 hours. It was probably the 3 hours they were all taking a nap! Were they up in the trees?
thanks

The four straight days of cold and rain may have put them off. There were definitely active fish in the shallows last week before all that happened.

Well, at least the weather is always a good excuse for me. [blush]
"In the trees" sounds a bit absurd! [shocked] But then come to think of it, I must have been subconsciously thinking that as that is where half of my flies went!! [laugh] [blush]
They may have moved back out of the shallows. What little we saw of any fish were in 8 to 20 feet of water.
I thought with it being such a nice day, that the afternoon might be productive. Oh well, there is always next week and somewhere else!

Well, all the hits we got where in the tree line in water 3' - 7' deep.We did try deeper water first but no takers, went shallow with yellow jigs and the bluegills started biting but no fast action .maybe next week it'll be back to normal.

I went back up to Twin on Wednesday. Pretty much the second I dropped my five bucks in the tube the wind hit. There were whitecaps all over he lake so I didn't even bother with my tube. I waded amongst the trees tossing Slug-Gos and caught five smaller bass in the 8-12" range. I also lost a much larger one and caught a good sized crappie of about 12" on the Slug-Go. It flipped off while I was trying to lip it, so no pic. I decided to crack out the 10' crappie pole and caught a gill and another smaller crappie on a 1/16 ounce jig and a 2" grub. They seemed to be in a little bit deeper water, and with the two foot waves hitting me, I decided to give it up before I ended up with waders full of water.
I went over to The Narrows where it was calm for a bit and caught half a dozen smallmouth before the winds hit even worse than at Twin. I nearly lost my hat. Luckily I packed up and left when I did because just outside of the canyon I hit torrential rain and hail. The only good thing about the weather this year is it's watering my lawn while I figure out how to fix my sprinklers [:/]

The wind was phenomenal on Wednesday! I can't imagine what the waves were like. Glad you got into some of the bass and panfish. Wish we had - I need a gilly dinner! They probably smelled the skunky smell on us and stayed away. -- planter trout don't count with the skunk when you're looking for panfish dinner!

I was hoping to get up there tomorrow, I'll bet they'll be getting back to being active. Unfortunately I have to go into Logan first thing in the morning. I guess I'll try Mantua. It's been a couple of years, but I hope it treats me well.
