I'm looking to catch some Brooks but am not sure where to go. I live in Sanpete, does anyone know where the closest place from my location would be to catch them? I've heard there are brooks up six mile canyon but not sure how true that is.

You can find lots of Brook Trout in the Manti mountains. Lots of little lakes. You should check the DWR website to see which ones are stocked with Brookies.

Had some time on my hands, so I have listed here all the lakes in San Pete county that were stocked with Brookies in 2009. More research will yield which lakes were stocked in earlier years (bigger fish) and the location of the lakes. But hope this helps.
ANDREWS #1
BLUE RIBBON 1,2,3 and 4
BRAD'S SECRET
CORNER BEAVER 1 and 2
EAST PARLEY'S
LITTLE BLUE
MARYS LAKE
RICHES POND
TOWNE RES

Of course, this isn't a comprehensive list of waters in Sanpete county with brook trout, nor does it include places outside of the county that may be nearby. Of course, if you are really serious about catching some nice brookies, you might want to consider visiting the Boulder Mountains. You'll find many lakes and streams there with large brookies. I don't think it's too far from Sanpete... ?

anywhere in the uintas u will find brookies. i like to fish the river thats next to the mirror lake highway, cast a float with a worm upstream and let it drift, you will catch fish on every cast.

Every single pond along the road up six mile canyon has them. Thats going to be your closest bet. Get some small marabou jigs and throw them on light line and work them just over the weeds.

Thanks, any recommendations on the color to use?

Yeah black or brown are good. Purple too. The key is a small one. Anything under 1/16 ounce. Four pound test. Small spinners will work up there too. Like size 0 bluefox.

Ferron lake has them and they want them out. You can keep an extra 4 fish in your limit if their brookies. For a chance at a little better size however , go to petes hole (no brooks) and hike to the next lake up the trail. I believe it's called angels wing (or something like that) Fishing can be tough there , but I have caught a few nice brookies there. The lake is full of leaches, step in with bare legs and you can collect them off your legs.

Could you be referring to academy mills?

There actually are brookies in Pete's. Caught a little one with a Blue Fox one day. I image using brookie gear would weed them out a little more easily.
Academy is the next lake up the trail. Only a mile and it's a pretty hike.
Don't hike too far, since there's another lake further (Grass Flat) and it's a shallow frog pond.

Your right , it is acadamy (just could'nt remember the name ) The trail will continue all the way to mary's lake. There used to be another lake in there called Cliif? Or slide? But I havent crossed that trail since the 1983 mud slide that turned 50' water falls in seely creek into piles of rubble and borders. That lake may have come down with it, as I think that slide is near where that lake was. would be interested in knowing ,if anyone ventures in.
I have never caught a brook in petes hole in over 40 years of fishing it. But I'm sure there may be a few. I have personally only caught rainbows, cuts and tigers there however.

Well I went up six mile yesterday. It was an adventure. I put the coordinates in my GPS for the ponds, but somehow messed up the coordinates so I was using memory from looking at maps to find the spots. The road is terrible, I recommend a four wheeler for anyone going up there. Luckily I found little blue, it didn't look anything like a pond that would hold fish, but we caught over ten little 10"-11" brooks, then I was discouraged because I thought I had missed the other ponds. On the way down I noticed something jumping out of those little leach ponds and to my surprise I caught about seven more brooks out of there. All very small. I had no idea those little ponds had fish in them. Let everything go... Anyone heading up there, expect small brookies, a rough road, and swarms of mosquitos! Also caught a tiny cutt and rainbow out of the river. Everything off a 1/16oz black maribou But it was a good time, lots of pretty scenery and got some good hiking in.
