Hey all. I work right by this large water system in Provo. It's right by the University Avenue I-15 exit, where the golf course and Novell building are. I've seen fish jumping there, but I was wondering if anybody knows if there's anything in there but carp. Thanks.

I think you are talking about the water coming from the sewage treatment plant. I used to fish there a lot. Anything found in Utah lake can be caught there in about the same ratios. The water level varies a lot (or it least it used to) day to day. People claim that the water coming from the plant is cleaner that tap water, but nearly 100% of the fish I caught had bleeding ulcers and I never dared to eat one. I had no problem giving away my catch to the "locals" though, and they kept coming back so apparently eating the stuff won't cause and instant death.
I pretty much transitioned to catching the carp here. They are HUGE and a real blast on light tackle. A couple slices of fresh bread that can easily be mashed around a hook is all you need. Some days the wait for a bite was at most 30 seconds and then the next day you couldn't get the carp to play with anything. I really think it depended on what the plant was releasing on a particular day. The water level would randomly change by 2-3 feet per day.

There used to be 3 large ponds there that were full of fish. Then they drained them and plopped a road through the middle of them. Mostly we caught carp, but I caught channel cats to around 2', largemouth, bluegill, green sunfish, bullhead and white bass as well. One time while reeling in a carp, two 4-5lb bass chased the fish in. Too bad I didn't carry a bunch of different rigged rods back then. By the time I tied a bass lure on my line, the bass were long gone.

When they drained the ponds I was surprised by all the large channel cats I saw. If I'd realized how thick they were, I would have targeted them instead of catching one here or there on bread.

In any case, I would think there would still be the same kinds of fish in what's left of the ponds and canals.
