Can anyone tell me how shore fishing is from Lindon Boat Harbor? I have a scout who is working on his fishing merit badge. We'll be fishing for anything, but primarily cats.

Any other suggestions for cats from shore?

Thanks in advance.

I went there last Friday and I only ended up landing one big carp. But I have no doubt there are cats in there. I'd target the reed lines.

I've never been to the AF Boat Harbor. How do you get there?

Cats can be in the harbor or outside. I have done better fishing to the North off the North wall. Close to the rocks along all the walls can hold at different times anything from White Bass, Bluegill, Sun fish to Crappie. You just never know. Any of them will hit small jigs with some worm or even a plain worm bellow a bobber. A worm cast out and left to sit on the bottom could catch about anything also. Check your PM's for some more info.

[cool][#0000ff]I just got back from Lindon...fishing from my tube. I did well fishing out away from shore but the folks fishing either inside or outside the marina were not catching much. Talked with a couple of guys who said they did well last week, before the big winds came in. I am guessing the fish will be back after a day or two of better weather.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]There have been lots of nice cats taken inside the harbor, near shore, either by soaking bait on the bottom or fishing it under a bobber. If the fish are in, it does not make a lot of difference what you use or how you use it. But carp meat always seems to work well. Ditto for crawlers, shrimp, minnows, etc.[/#0000ff]

Thanks for all the advice. We decided to fish back by the airport on UL and landed 10 fish: 7 channel cats, 2 mudcats, and 1 white bass which we used as bait because we ran out of minnows.

Needless to say, we had a blast! Several times we had double fish on, which was a joy considering they were kids.

We also almost tagged a large carp with the bow, but, due to user malfunction, the line got tangled and the arrow went about 10 feet and snapped back towards us. Lots of excitement.

Attached are the pics from the cell phone so not sure how good they are.

Okay, here are the pics. We used minnows about 3 feet under a float.

[cool][#0000ff]That area out from the airport can be great. But I did not suggest it because unless you have been there it is difficult to find...even with good directions. Glad you know about it now. The problem is that there is limited shore access. If you get out to your intended spot and find several vehicles already there you are pretty much out of luck. Unless you are into full contact fishing. Not me.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Glad the younguns got into some action. Always makes for a better trip.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Gotta watch out for those user malfunctions. Especially hazardous when sharp pointed projectiles are involved. There have been serious injuries (or worse) sustained from arrow "twangback". Glad you avoided that. Bodily punctures can just ruin your whole day. Much better to inflict on carp than to yourself.[/#0000ff]

I've got the fillets soaking in salt water to get rid of the blood. Do you have any good rubs for grilling them?

[quote pacscrumhalf]I've got the fillets soaking in salt water to get rid of the blood. Do you have any good rubs for grilling them?[/quote]

[cool][#0000ff]Almost any good combination of pepper, garlic, salt and other favorite spices will work. However, if you have already soaked them in salt water you might want to eliminate the salt in a sprinkle or rub. Test for taste after they have cooked to see if they need more salt.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I actually make my own combination I call SUPER SPICE. It is a blend I have worked out over the years...especially after spending some time in Cajun country. I sprinkle it on everything. Pixie dust.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]3 parts black pepper[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]1 part cayenne pepper[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]1 part garlic powder[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]1 part cumin[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]1 part oregano[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]You can raise the heat factor by adding more cayenne. You can also add salt, but I prefer to salt separately.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I mix this stuff up in quantity and always keep a large shaker on the stove shelf. It is the last thing I put on fillets before they go in the smoker too.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Be sure you test it before snorting a line. It got a kick.[/#0000ff]

Thanks for the recipe. It has been years since I fished that section of the lake.

How goes the fishing in the canal at the end of the airport, on the right hand side if you are driving in from the airport road?

I always see things dimpling the water and was curious.

"How goes the fishing in the canal at the end of the airport, on the right hand side if you are driving in from the airport road?"

[cool][#0000ff]Can't answer that one for you. I have heard a lot of stories but have never fished it myself. I suspect that just about anything in Utah Lake has probably found its way into the canal also. The dimples could be anything from small carp to bluegills. Then again they could be giant mosquitoes or piranha. I have never seen much access to fish it with all of the high reeds and weeds around it.[/#0000ff]
