Hello Idaho fishermen........I am going to be at Redfish Lake with some friends from June 29 till July 3rd and we have never fished there as we are from out of state. We are bringing a boat and we will be starting from the Redfish lodge Marina and just wondered if I could get some help on where to fish and with what type of bait or lures to use. Also is there other lakes nearby that might possibly be a better place to fish. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks ~RANGERX

When you posted the same question in March, you were given some terrific suggestions by lots of people in the know. Just wondering why you are "reasking" the question?

Hi Kodiak....yes I did post the same question back in March. We were planning the trip but now we are just days away from going to Redfish. Things change after 4 months and least they do where I fish. What works today may not work next week. I may catch fish at one spot and come back and get skunked the next time. I just wondered what was the hot spot and or lure/bait as well as location for right now. Maybe nothing ever changes at this lake and the fish allways go for the same thing at the same spots but I doubt it. Really I just want a refresher report for Redfish lake now that is actually June....Thanks for any input ~RANGER

You can fish the inlets, as mentioned before, but Redfish is very low on the list of good places to fish. Check in at the fishing shop in downtown Stanley for up-to-date info. Good luck, and hope you enjoy what I think is one of the most beautiful places in America. Make sure you go up to Custer, and def. take the tour of the dredge on the road up there. Mike

There are a ton of good planter trout in the Salmon River from Lower Stanley to Mormon Bend campground. Wear waders and cruise the shore. Check the regs. before you go. I don't know all the special rules. I was using a huge hopper pattern and swinging it through deeper sections of the river and slayed the little 12-14 planters. The river might still be a little high. Be safe. I hit it during the second week of August last summer and floated from the interpretive sign below Lwr. Stanely to Mormon Bend. Dozens of fish per angler. Awesome little river. If you are planning on trolling I have heard Stanley Lake would be a better bet. If I were trolling at Redfish I'd troll right up to the bar, get a few cocktails, and enjoy the fine scenery that Idaho has the offer. You'll catch just as many fish on that lake that way.

Good luck. Be sure to hit town and enjoy the night life Stanley has to offer. It is a unique experience.

Happy Trails.
