Being new here and having only asked questions so far I feel the need to contribute. We went on our first camping trip to Horsethief Reservoir this last weekend and I must say it is absolutely gorgeous up there but Sadly no fish caught the entire time (from the bank) just lots of mosquito bites. Saturday morning we drove to Cascade and the kids had a blast catching little bass from the shore. After lunch we decided to go do some exploring and we stumbled across Corral Creek.....

What a beautiful hidden gem!!!! The Rainbows were on fire!!! With a couple 18"+ and none smaller than 12" between four of us at least 20 came up to the bank in a matter of 45 minutes. Most fun I've had fishing since moving to Idaho last year. I do have a question though, are those stocked rainbows up there? They look and "feel" wild definately not the triploid party you see everywhere else.

Also I have 8 more days of vacation left and I'm still looking for some good bass opportunities from the bank if anyone has some pointers within comfortable driving distance from Boise I'm all ears. Keep your lines tight.

Thanks for the tip - I drive by that place all the time but have never fished it. What were you using? There is a little gem of a pond by Middleton called Duff Lane Pond that used to be pretty good for largemouth before it mosses up when it gets hot in the summer. I haven't been there in a few years but I caught some decent bass out of there - mostly on plastics - plus there are a lot of sunfish for the kids. It is a great place for a float tube plus it's close for a quick sneakaway.

I would spend some time exploring CJ Strike. You can fish from the bank or docks at Loverage Bridge areas, Crane Falls Lake ( 20" bass limit there), From the dike at Cove Arm, from the docks or banks at the Narrows, Cottonwood, and other campgrounds.

If not CJ, go to Brownlee, or stay closer and go below some of the dams in the Boise area, such as Swan Falls, Lucky Peak, Arrowrock, and Black Canyon. Also there are the ponds in Boise, Emmett, and Caldwell. Etc.

Thanks for the advice everyone I sure do appreciate it. I went up and explored Lucky Peak for a bit today, landed the biggest squawfish I have ever seen (10-11 lbs guessing) but other than that just a couple nibbles here and there. Cruised up to Arrowrock afterwards and was met with the same problem, but the kids had a blast playing around in the water for a bit.
