I wanted to get out and do some fishing so a friend and I decided to take a quick trip to Bird Island. We arrived at the island at about 7:30 am. The water was calm, and there was only one boat near the island when we arrived. Later another boat arrived and fished fairly close to us most of the time we were there.

We immediately started to catch the kitties with minnows and a shrimp/worm combination. Today the shrimp/worm combination was the better bait. We caught white bass, carp, mud cats, and channel cats. I only wanted the channel cats. The fishing was great. I lost count of the number of fish I caught.

We left in the afternoon when the weather was too hot to be comfortable.

It appears that the channel cats want to play in almost any area of the lake right now.

Congrats Lloyd on the fine catch. Is that Tug's boat? Looks like they have made some additional improvements at the Lincoln Boat Harbor.

I was fishing in about that same spot only a little closer to the island a couple of days ago. I was doin' some damage with carp meat on those hungry cats. Betwixt bites I was watching the antics of those pelicans. They were doing their best to catch one of those big old carp that were thrashing around. I was amazed when one of them finally scooped up a big ol' carp and tried to eat it. It was quite show. The pelican would throw his head up in the air and try to swallow the carp but he just couldn't get him to go down. The carp was thrashin' around in the pouch and really giving the pelican a run for his money. It was a losing battle, for the pelican, and he finally discorged the carp. Good show.

The cats were bitin' real good for me too. I've been after an over-30-incher for a couple of weeks now. I've managed one right at 30 and a couple at about 28. Plan on picking my big one up this week.

Tug sold his boat. He had a difficult time doing all that he needed to do to put himself in the boat, to put his boat in the water, etc. I still take him fishing. He never wants to give that up.

They have made a lot of improvements at Lincoln Beach.
