The wife and I went to FL sat, sun, mon, and tue. I would say that I am a pretty good fisherman. Man was it slow. The wind would pick up every day at 10am and would not stop until about 8pm. We tried trolling with pop gear, rapalas, flatfish, crocodiles, and jakes. Only managed to catch about 4 small rainbows in 4 days. We tried every spot on the lake even the spots that always pay off. We spent more time jigging for splake with a gulp minnow that was tipped with a minnow. I would say we did ok doing that. But could not get on big schools of splake for long periods of time and the splake were small that we caught. We would catch about 4 a piece every time we would try jigging. We jigged in all kinds of different depths and all over the lake. One day while getting back from fishing I noticed about 30 splake right by the boat launch. Looked to me like they were trying to spawn so I believe thats why they were so scatterd in the lake and were hard to find. I tried trolling for macks also but notta there either. Also manged to catch a few dink perch. Talking to other people there on the lake they had not caught anything but the majority of them were only trolling. When I would ask about jigging for splake they had no idea. So bottom line is if we would have not jigged for splake it would have been a slow four days.

Next time up use small willow leaf pop gear with a green wedding ring with the chartreuse blade. can't keep the rainbows off that. anywhere on the lake. Willow leaf pop gear is great because you can actually fight the fish instead of the gear. not much resistance with that stuff at all.

I also jig for the splake, this time of year they are in a false spawn. and I catch most of them near the weed line on the south west side of the lake. White/Pearl 3" tube jigs with perch meat. 20 feet out from the weed bed wall.
