so i think its time i actually do a some what descent report because its been awhile since i have.(sorry guys i have been super busy. such is life right?)
I took off to ellis this morning got there at about 7:30 am the river is high but clearing up and some locals that were there told me it had actually cleaned up quite a bit and dropped about 3 inches in the last 12 hours. i went to my normal holes i fish but the water was just way to high. so i went to a spot that i have seen people fish before but i never have nobody was down there because the trail has been cut off by a side channel and it looked like good holding water. i got my waders on grabbed my loomis and steelhead/salmon tacklebag and went down to cross the side channel. i thought the side channel was probably only waist deep so i hopped in and almost filled up my waders!!!!!! and the water was alot faster than i thought as well by the time i made it to the other side the water had pushed me down stream about 20 feet i thgrough my stuff up on the bankl and pulled my self out by grabbing willow limbs and pulling my self out. (well at least i knew it was virgin teritory nobody had been in that area all spring and summer) so i got to the hole and started fishing about 20 minutes into it i hooked and landed a 22 inch hatchery buck steelhead (last thing i was expecting to catch this time of year, and yes it was a steelhead and not a rainbow.) another ten minutes went by and something railed the living bajeebus out of my orange corkie and pink yarn i set the hook into what felt like a rock then the rock yanked back and started peeling line right out to the middle of the river where it was very very fast all i could think was oh know im gonna get spooled out! but then my line just went limp [frown] so i realed it in and nothing had broke just hook pulled out i guess.(im gonna go ahead and tell myself it was a salmon just to make myself feel better.) i fished down there for about another 45 minutes and landed 2 whitefish and another steelhead a juvenile this time about 11 inches long and still had baby spots on him he was a hatchery fish also. so i packed it in and headed back across the side channel much easier this time because i knew what to expect. i hopped in the car and shot up to the hatchery to see how many fish they had in there. WOW! there are some toads in the river this year! last year there were a bunch of fish in the 20 to 30 pound range so far this year there are bunch that look like they are 40 plus i mean monsters big old hook jaw males and fat fat females. fish and game had not updated the board since the 21st but im gonna estimate at least 60 fish in the hatchery now.
so i headed down stream towards salmon stopped in a couple hoiles that i thought were fishable but the river was just to high and the closer to salmon i got the muddier the river got. by the time i made it to salmon it was chocolate milk. so i headed home jumped on the computor and typed a report. one of these days ill remember my camera.( ive decided i hurry myself to much i need to slow my life down.)[cool]
so heres what im thinking the river might be fishable this weekend if we dont get anymore rain and two weeks from now is going to be HOT!!!!!!![sly]
ps bring mosquito repelent because they are bad already.
