I'm heading to Yellowstone with the family in mid July and camping near Henry's lake and would like to get some tips on fishing the lake. I haven't done much fresh water fishing and was wondering what tackle, rod reels and line, as well as lures would work best. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Welcome to BFT. To be honest mid July is an iffy time at Henrys lake. We have had some cool weather so might get here before the water temps rise.

If you fly fish you might hit the backend of the damsel hatch although the damsel hatch hasn't been very good in the last few years.

If you spin fish, the usual panther martins usually will produce in the medium sizes. I like the yellow body with silver blade or black with silver blade.

Bait fishing is best off of the cliffs if you are shore fishing.

If you are trolling you need to find the holes because Henrys is a shallow lake with lots of weeds. The weeds should be coming up good by that time.

Without a tube or boat it is difficult to find access to the good water during July.

I guess I need to know more about your plans because Henrys is a very technical lake especially during July and August.

You may want to try some of the moving waters near there as an option as well. The outlet can be good if you get away from the road access points by either wading or busting brush. The Henry's Fork of the Snake can also be good fishing either fly or lures from shore. Then there is the Buffalo river which I've had good times on just up stream from box canyon (Island Park Dam). If you don't mind driving a little further towards the valley warm river can usually produce reliably, although mostly planters.
