Newbie here!
Been (mainly trout, bass) fishing in southern Idaho my whole life and I've recently decided to 'attempt' some Sturgeon fishing, picked up a 10' ugly stick, heavy reel, 50lb mono, 10oz weights, leader/etc. I've never fished for one before, but have been researching on the net. (Great site you guys have here!!)
Are particularly good places to fish from shore in the Hagerman/Bliss/King Hill areas? At the moment I'm kind of looking into some area below the Bliss dam, or below Lower Salmon Dam in Hagerman. (Any of these areas accessible to shore fisherman?)
Any help would be greatly appreciated! [laugh] Thanks!

welcome aboard
the places you listed are great and have good access for the shore fisherman.
below lower salmon dam is a good spot I like the west side out on the little tip between the spillway and the main channel. seems like a lot of fish between three and six foot and pretty easy to get your bait to stay put. the east side is a little harder but had pretty good luck right at the end of the boat slide.
Right below bliss dam is a hard place to fish heavy current and the bottom of the river should be just about paved in lead with all the sinkers i have lost there. I would concentrate my efforts down stream in cabin hole and jet hole. pretty easy to get down there just cross the river right below bliss stay right until you get to the end of the canal road then go down into the canyon. cabin hole is the big swirling hole right above the slide that closed off the river way back when. jet hole is the next hole down. make sure and let us know how ya do and pics are almost mandatory [laugh]

Thanks for the tips!
I just got back from throwing a few lines below Lower Salmon, east side - right near the boat slide as suggested.
My 10oz weight was just flying downstream, eventually I got it settled in and after a 10-15 minute wait had a few definite bites (who's to say from what though, honestly - was massing nightcrawlers on that hook). No luck on the hookup. My inexperience is showing. [:p]
Lost a few rigs in the rocks. I probably need to try the west side, it looked much calmer and as you said easier to get the weight settled (maybe less rocks too?).
I'll probably give it another shot in the next day or so, might go try those holes you mentioned near Bliss. I was checking Google Maps to try and see exactly where you were talking about, still a little fuzzy on where they are but I think I got a good idea.
Thanks again for your help, Drowning Flys! [fishin][url "../../../cgi-bin/community/community.cgi?do=user_page;pg=user_profile_view.html;username=drowning_flys"][/url]

well keep trying once ya hook one its all over and you will have sturgeon brain [laugh] Its pretty tough to hold on the east side unless the have the number 3 or 4 turbine on
spot centered in the map is cabin hole then down 2 sets of rapids is jet hole. if you have Google earth i can give you longitude and latitude

Wow, thanks for the image!
I know exactly where it is now, should be no problem getting there. I'm definitely going to give it a shot next chance I get.
