Fishing on the Little Salmon is good. 2 buddies and I were over there from Friday- Mon. Between the 3 of us we hooked up with 75-80 fish easy. Landing them wasnt so good. I landed 13 + 3 jacks out of 25 or so hookups , another buddy landed 2 and my other landed 2. It was kind of funny, at one point my buddy J was at 0 for 20 hookups before he put a fish on the bank. The river is getting really low. We started the trip in the lower/mid river and it was slow. The best fishing is in the stretch from rapid river downstream 2 miles. We mostly drifted yarn, although we did bobber fish with roe one hole and did pretty good. Based on the way the fish were moving through the river I would say it will be good for at least another 2 weeks. The fish are getting pretty dark now, but the bucks still have nice bright orange meat the hens were starting to get pale. We only caught 3 hatchery re-cycles between us, and with the hatchery count up close to 4000, there must be good numbers of new fish still moving through. This was my 4th trip over this year and will be my last. Had good succesful trips everytime. Fun!fun! fun!
May the salmon gods keep the runs healthy and strong.

I made it up there for a couple hours on Monday. We were camping in Cascade and I talked the wife into running up there. I had a hard time putting them on the bank as well [:/]. I got there at about 11:00 and only fished until 1:30 or so. I didn't see anyone else ever hook-up but I hooked 4. Never did put one on the bank though. Everyone of them came out of the water a foot or so right after I hooked them so at least I got a look at them. The water is back down to where it is fishable and there are still a lot of people. I talked to one guy who said that it had been picking up in the evenings around 6:30.

The first 2 hours in the morning and last 3-4 in the afternoon were hands down the best times. No surprise there, but we still caught fish all day long just at a lot slower pace. On Mon morning from legal till about 7. It was crazy. We hooked a fish on almost every other cast. Then it slowed down to about a fish every 10-15 min for another couple hours then it really dropped off. In the afternoon as soon as the sun dropped over the west ridge the fishing was on nonstop until we couldnt see where our rigs were hitting the drift.
I tried fishing the mouth of the rapid river once for about 20 min , just to say I did, but its by no way my cup of tea for fishing. However, It is pretty entertaining to spend a little time watching the hoard fish the mouth. I saw guys yarding salmon out of the water like tuna, like out of the water and over the shoulder unto the bank. Not sure what they were using for gear but it must have been very stout.
Last weekend at the mouth of the rapid, another buddy saw a guy jerk a snag out, that shot out of the water up to the road, snag a truck driving by and spool his reel. LOL It would have been great to get that on video.

Good report and story as well, but that last bit sounds like a yarn.

I guess it could be a fish story, but he's my best friend and I dont know why he would lie. Having fished there and watched them fish on several occasions Ive seen sinkers come out and thump the side of parked trucks before. So I can invision it happening.
I wish I was salmon fishing instead of working!

I guess now that I think of it, I have seen crazier things happen. [

] Actually, re-reading your post, I believe it!
I was thinking mouth of the "little", in which case it is a very long way from the river to the road, but as you stated, at the mouth of "rapid", it is no stretch at all and I could easily see that happening. I bet that was hilarious!
