looking to take a family vacation to southern utah in August. Just wondering which would be the best one to go to for a night of camping and fishing? How is the shade if any? Facilities????? Amenities????? Thanks![

Do you have a boat? Sand hollow will most likely provide the faster shore fishing for bluegill and small bass. Fishing along the dike in the daytime seems to produce pretty well. Quail can be tough fishing unless you are familiar with it. Trout are usually down deep to escape the heat, and bass and bluegill can be finicky. Crappie fishing is also tricky, but there are some big fish. I peronsally perfer Sand Hollow, but they can both be good. There is more shade and better camping at Quail.

No boat so we will either be in float tubes or on shore. I want to make a week tour of southern utah so will stay in multiple areas and fish multiple lakes.

What lakes are you plannin on hitting? Chances are, if they're in Washington county, I've fished them a lot.

Well lets see. I got tubes so sand hollow, lake powell, somewhere on boulder mountain. The idea is to hit many NP, SP, etc... as I can in 8 days.[laugh] I know crazy but a lot of camping involved and staying over for a couple of days in at least one or two different campgrounds.

Quail has nicer campgrounds with some shade, Sand Hollow has none. If the wind starts to blow anywhere in Utah the wind will howl at SH, Quail is somewhat sheltered.
