When I got up today I heard a knock at my door and my nephew Ryan said "Unkle Mark, can we go fishing?" I of course was ready to go. We ran to a deep spot and used 1/16oz jigs with BG shads. Most of the fish were at about a 35 count reeling fastX2 then letting the bait drop for a 10-14 count. We caught a 2lb LM then a 2lb white, a few yellows, then things slowed down. The fish were just not cooperating so we decided to move and try vertical jigging. Ryan looked like he wasn't sure that this would work but he got really excited when he hooked a heavy fish. He fought it like a champ and when he got it to the surface it was a TARP crappie. Here's a pic of the crappie with it's proud owner. We only had about 45 minutes to fish.

I also went fishing yesterday morning with a neighbor's son in law. Wes is a fly fisherman so I had him throw at a shallow area that has been holding bass but we had no takers so I thought we'd try for some deep fish. We caught around 25 yellows and 6 big whites fishing with the usual 1/16oz jigs with BG shads. We fished for about 2 hours. Hopefully we can go fishing for a few hours before Church in the morning Sunday. I was thinking it would be fun fishing for the whites on a fly rod but the fish are so deep that one would have to fish with a sinking line and that takes away some of the fun of fly fishing. We might try that in the morning.
