We didn't make it to McTucker on Fathers Day as planned, but made it today. It was surely breezy. I had printed out a satellite picture someone on here once posted with the species in each pond labeled. We started in one with bass. Our dock faced into the wind which made it a chore casting. Tried various rapalas and terrestrials and buzz baits and spinners and finally I tried a plastic worm. Got a bite second cast, then he found it again and nailed it hard. Soon I had a whopping 8" bass. I showed wife and son how to rig a Texas style worm and fish it. They each felt a few bites but nobody caught another.
We tried other ponds. I kept downsizing my son's hook until I finally found a size 14 and he started catching the bluegill. They were whoppers. Several were over 2". That's length, not width or height.
We tried for catfish in a few ponds where someone said they were. The wind shaking the rod makes it hard to feel a bite if there was one.
It was a fun trip and we like the area. Maybe next time the fish will cooperate. The moss is growing good. I'm guessing it will die back in the fall like it does in Carey Lake. Maybe we'll try it again then.
