Taking the family to Yuba next weekend and we have never been there or fished this lake. We will have 5 to 6 kids with us and would like to introduce them to fishing. Any tips would be much appreciated. Size or species doesn't matter. Although a walleye would be cool and I heard they are tasty[Smile] But we mostly just want them to have fun. Fishing from shore and/or small boat. Any tips?

well take some worms and have a great time fishing the carp factory.. even the guy's that fish for walleye a lot there have not been doing so hot the last while..
the perch have crashed in there last year. but ya still might find some here or there. you can get them from shour with a worm on the bottom but i think the carp will be on it faster.. there are some nice cat's in there to. try minnows chub or shiners whole might even catch a pike that way too.. but the carp will eat them too but at lest if ya caught a cark with a big minnow it will be a big carp! lol

I agree with the other responses about worms and carp. You could also try from your boat (and shore, but boat would be better) early morning and late evening cast lipless and/or crank baits in perch colors paralel or on a 45 degree angle from shore to try and get the big northern pikes to bite. They are fun and very, very tasty! Just watch out for their teeth, they are big and sharp. I would suggest steel leaders.

Thanks for the tips. They are much appreciated. Although I wont eat the carp just letting the kids catch and reel a few will be fun. And if we're lucky who knows. Thanks again and happy fishing.
