hey all this is my 1st post. i fish the rivers and ponds from vineyard to king hill. i have a few places i frequent more often than others: upper salmon falls project "a", lower malad, crystal lake, and box canyon for crawdads. so far weve pulled in mostly trout (8-13 inches) pikeminnows, suckers, and one little 3 ft sturgeon.
ive recently beefed up my gear a little (7ft ugly stik striper) with 150 yds 50 lb braided spiderline with +/- 75 yds 20 lb suffix lead on a quantum optix 60f (the one with the larger spool i cant find it online) so im hoping for improved chances with the bigger fish of the snake river since ive broken my line so many times.
any suggestions of places to fish in the area? where have you been and what worked for you?

Sorry for that earlier post. Wish I had more info on your area but I don't. There's a bunch of guys that know the area and I'm sure they will jump in. Welcome to the board! [fishon]

well just got back from the bass ponds in the hagerman WMA... long walk and it took most our time to find a spot that was clear enough to fish. saw tons of bluegill and a few tiny trout. big fish jumping further out in the ponds. theyre were hittin on a little yellow tube i was bouncin around but the hook was too big.
we packed up and walked back to the truck. we decided to throw in one last time, just to see what would happen... my buddy caught one first cast on a small mepps and then i threw in on his side and caught a NICE golden with a yellow rooster tail. it bent my hook sideways!!
overall great night fishin the ponds. i wanna go back and float the larger bass pond... it was clear of top moss and full of fish.
oh, since i have braided line i just tied a 6 ft red cajun mono lead. worked great and i got to use my larger pole.

Hey, your golden trout is actually a banana trout. Basically they are rainbow trout with a lack of melanin pigment and that gives them a light yellow color - like albinos but without the red eyes.

I remember catching them (or trying to) as a kid at Jackson's Trout Farm west of Blackfoot... Where dad got us hooked on fishing, dang him [
].
Since it is a pay pond and he raises them himself they don't have bigger fish eating them when they hatch, so he would have 3 or 4 dispersed in among the 200 or so in a pond. Really would be awesome to have a few for a personal pond someday.
A nice pic of one with a bright red stripe on this post:

ahhh thanks for the distinction. i knew they werent true golden trout but i didnt know what else to call em.
weve recently taken to carp spearing. im mixing the cut meat and eyes from them with garlic and cheese and am planning on using them for catfish bait. any good spots int he hagerman river valley? i was thinking west pont and maybe around owsely bridge.

Try the west and north sides Dog Creek Resivoir. I know when they're spawning they are flopping all over in the moss beds but not sure about this time of year.

well i gave dog creek a shot on the east and west sides with a small boat. no luck. saw a bunch of perch and carp though.
i just made some catfish bait utilizing more or less the following ingredients:
white corn meal
flour
garlic
peppers
anchovies
crawdad brains and tails
fish oil
pickle juice
aged goat cheese
and some spices and salt
hopefully i can give it a shot on the boat tonight in the upper salmon falls reservoir (thousand springs area)
lake murtaugh is probably my next try for the catfish. ive seen youtube videos of catfish being caught at dierkies. can you really walk down at night as long as you dont bring a car to fish?
