I must be off my game. Twin Lakes was pretty slow on Monday morning. We did not stay long as the skiers and jet skiers started.
Few Blue gill was all.
Anyone else there that day, interested to know how you did on crappie and perch.
Hope I can pick it up next time.

How big are the bluegill you found?

I was there saturday, sunday, and monday. It was pretty good fishing sat. I caught mabey 20 LMB, and 30-35 bluegill. They were up in the willows mostly but not a real hot bite. Sunday it was much slower for the bass and the bluegill were harder to find and catch. 2 old Duffers in a small boat were fishing 50 yards out from the structure in deeper water. I thought at first they were targeting trout but when I ask them they said were fishing for the bluegill. I saw them catch a few and put them on a stringer that had about 10 gills on it already.I stuck to the structure and caught 28 nice size gills.Monday the boys fished right below where our trailer was and caught mabey 15 smallish gills and a few bonus small bass.we had a great time... The wife loved camping there and we will definately be back. I never touched a crappie or even heard of anyone catching one this weekend. I did catch 2 perch of the 4 inch class by the back dam...

Thanks for the information. The gills I caught were small. We stayed deeper fishing some areas were I have had good luck in the past when it is this hot.
Has anyone had much success on the Crappie at Twin or Glendale this year?

I was at Twin Lakes yesterday from 12 to 5pm. Not the best fishing times, but the weather was nice--sunny, hot, and calm.(a miracle that the wind wasn't blowing!). There were a couple of ski boats and jet skies out, but they were very nice and courteous.
I fished the north lake from the dam up the west side to the end of the island. I saw fish on the sonar in the deeper water, but either I wasn't getting my fly down to them or they didn't like my offering. I did catch about 5 or 6 trout in the 20 ft zone. Most of everything else was caught in 10 ft or less.
I caught only1 crappie, a bunch of the smaller bass, and about 15 to 20 bluegills. The gills were scarcer than in times past, but both theirs and the bass's average size was larger. The bass I caught were mostly 10 to 13 inches which is up from an average of 8 to 10 inches.
I think that the bass are really starting to put a hurt on the gills and crappie.

I found a large spawning area with 8" average size gills on Tuesday. The larger fish seemed to be out from the brush in the weeds. They were very tentative biters though. Even with a 1/64 ounce jig and a 1" grub I missed most of the takes.

Been to Twin twice this year and the first visit a couple of weeks ago we ended up with 64 crappie. For the three of us, we had hoped for more. Caught around 40 bluegills. Decent bass with two over twelve. Lost a good'n. Went back this past Tuesday and caught only a few bluegill, 2 tiny perch, and maybe 4 eight inch bass. It sucked! No Crappie either. The water level had dropped at least three feet in a weeks time. This could have hurt the late spawn and thrown fish into deeper water. I don't know. Nonetheless, fishin will only get better i feel from here on out. The wind, yes was blowing every freaking time! Could only manage to stay hidden behind trees and the island. Good luck! LC

How deep were the crappie holding? So far I have only found 2 and both were out off of the weeds in 10 to 12 ft water.

I have never caught more than a dozen crappie.
64 crappie, wow! How about a little more info
on what you were fishing with & how.

They typically were in 10-15 feet of water. They like to stay out of visual site. We did catch some on their beds in the south lake. The day we went back, they were off their beds and nowhere to be found. They are moody like that. They will school up after the spawn and should be easier to catch off of vegetation ledges. LC

I havent been able to find many this year yet, but I agree they should be on the take by now. If you find a school, you should be into them for a while. Last year at both Glenndale and Twin it wasnt hard to get into them like that. It wasnt uncommon for me and neighbor to bring home upwards of 40 nice crappie and gills, but havent gotten 64 all crappie around here before. What were the size of them and what did they hit on?
Anyone fishing Glenndale yet or doing any good?

We had a few at 12 inches and the rest were from 9 and up. Did throw a few small ones back to appease the fish gods. We used 1/32 oz or 1/16 oz jig head below a little split shot. Any color seemed to work. Good Luck! And all you out there reading this, this hurts me to post my fishing success but I have been favored by the fish gods. I must spread the love! LC

I appreciate your reply. Even with the info you
gave out, you still have to have the crappie
touch.
Thanks

Yeah, what's with the wind there? It's always blowing, which sucks pretty badly when all you have is a float tube.

I agree the wind stinks and we are all tired of it. We fished Twin last Friday afternoon. Just in time for a couple of nice thunderstorms to roll in. What a pit! We beached and bank fished for about 1/2 to 1 hr. and after that it wasn't too bad, just not very good either.
This is just as it is getting started about 4PM. We did catch some small bass and bluegills. The storm seemed to slow the bite.[inline "PICT1978 Standard e-mail view.jpg"]

Back when the water was high I would ditch the tube and wade amongst all the fallen trees. I did pretty well on bass, gills and crappie. Now that those trees are high and dry it's a different story. I think I'm going to give Twin a break until the ski boats thin out.
[signature]
Do the ski boats ever thin out? I think they are like the wind this year -- a never ending annoyance!

I hear ya about the wind, both times I've been there this year the wind seemed to pick up after noon. Its been like that almost everywhere this year. God is going to teach me to fish in the wind this year weather I like it or not! But I would rather listen to the wind howl on the lake than listen to grown men howl at work any day!

Eventually, when the water gets cold enough they will [:p]
Actually, I start school really hardcore in a few weeks, so I might not be fishing much of anywhere for a while [frown]
As for the wind, it really is ridiculous this year, along with the rest of the weather. Ever since I moved to Cache the weather has been weird.

Good luck with school. Just hang in there and finish. Having gone through a zillion years of it myself I can sympathize with you. Do an hour or two fishing once in awhile if you can -- it clears your head and makes you a semi-normal person again!!
BTW- thanks for all of the updates and reports you have done on the southeast region this spring. They have been awesome!
