I have been fishing DC a lot this past fall early spring and now summer. I have put a lot of days in and have had some good days. Although I have seemed to struggle with the smallies and eyes there. I really have tried what I think to be, a lot of different presentations, baits, techniques and places. I catch occasionally but no where near what I feel I deserve for the hours I have put in. I really want to unlock this lake because I live closest to it. Anyone have any tips for the smallies or the eyes? Any info would be super appreciated!!

Learn Walleye patterns and you will catch them. They are similar too Bass.

Where have you been going from the shore? I've had luck with curlys for the smallies. What color tubes?

Hey Jordan, good to see your finding time for some fishing. I have not fished Deer creek much but most of my life fishing for smallies in Idaho my favorite go to bait was a twin tail grub in 2 or 3 inch depending on their mood. My favorite color was what was called motor oil with red flake. I also caught allot of fish on smoke with silver flake, pumpkin with pepper flake, and a crawdad color that is olive green on top and orange on bottom. Cabela's sells all of these. I always try to use the lightest jig head possible as well to get the best action and slow fall.

I usually catch smallies in the rocks next to the shoreline all around the reservoir. I catch a lot on two inch curly tails...color white with black dots.

Catching walleye at Deer Creek has always been a challenge for me. Several friends have taught me how to catch a few, but I have not been as successful catching walleye there as I have other places. Walleye fishing is also better at night than in the day time.

[fishin] ive been fishing at the day use are right off the freeway, im guessing the south side of the lake? not walsburg, not rainbow bay, but the next big boat launch.. over by the restrooms directly to your right of the pay station just park and have some fun! we've had good luck on watermelon, pumpkin, anything in the greens, browns, purples, those colors seemed to work best! hope this helps

Todd,
Good to hear from you. Thank you for the info on the bass, I will definitely use your tips. How's Starvation been? I never got to tell you congratulations on the tournament. I called Chad and let him know how excited I was for you guys. Let me know if you guys are headed out and have an open spot. Hope all is well! Best of all!

when you unlock this lake will you give me the last 2 numbers of the combination ?? I know a couple of numbers but not unlocked yet, I've fished this res. for over 15 years for walleye going almost once a month and sometimes twice a week at certain times of the year.
when the weather does the right things the fish move to
certain locations, and when the weather has a fast change they go away. good luck. later chuck

DC, what a lake!!! I also have been attempting to unlock this body of water... i do not know a combo yet because everytime I think I figure one out, the admin shows up and changes the passwords/numbers.

here is a bit of what I do know... it isnt much [:p].

trout, fairly easy to catch if you are not with me. I usually troll shad raps, some DT bleeding shad lures in the DT 16 or DT 20. I do not use down riggers so when they go deep, I use a 3 oz "banana" weight in line with a 6 foot leader to my lure/bait. If you go with worms, you can always use the bobber and 2 feet under in the morning or evening hours, during the day again I troll to expose my bait to more fish than if I am in one spot, I will troll a wedding ring spinner in green. or just plain spinner baits. I have picked up bass, trout, perch doing this with worm. My daughter recently got her first walleye at 13.5 inches on the wedding setup too using a 3/8 oz walking sinker above the swivel with a glow bead.

I also use 1/2 oz bouncers with the spinner rig setup, i dont use plastics much unless its gulp and i can only afford those once a year.

If you have a sonar use it to locate rock piles, humps in the bottom, or indentations, or weed beds. I will cut motor and drift over these spots with up to a 1/4 oz leadhead jig (usually a techniglo lindy fuzzEgrub) in pink or blue or green tipped with crawler maybe cut a worm in 4 chunks and use one at a time. dead minnows work too, but i only use minnows later in the season to create a larger presentation, if you can rig it to look like the minnow is having trouble eating a bit of afore mentioned worm bit it is that much better.

I have hit bass, trout, perch, sunfish this way. I have yet to catch a walleye for my self, BUT I have hooked up every guest i have had on my boat that was willing to fish with a walleye, the biggest going 22 inches... its face is my avatar.

that said, you are more certain to catch a walleye by chance going for bass, perch, trout than you are by actually fishing for them in that lake. LOL. to quote the great TubeDude. thanks TD.

location i go for is the northe side of the lake along rail road tracks, lots of rocky shorline there and up the south side of the lake.

I always begin at the day use area near the river inlet (its only 5 bucks fee there) and troll across the "mud flats" to the other side, go west to the area across from rainbow bay to the point just west of the bay, then head south to that side of the lake and back up east past the island, then head north again across the main "flats" area to the day use part again toward the inlet of the middle provo.

I follow my sonar and the fish, I try to follow the steady stream of fish on my screen, if i blip off course and only see one or two fish at a time i correct myself to keep at least 10 on the screen or the most i can find. If i cross a big school, I will kill motor and let everything drop the bottom too, see if i can tease something up that way.

Hope i have given you some good info to start with. all this can be done on a tube as well, I have done it. and if you need a tube, check out the for sale board, I happen to have one that i am selling with a rod holder, and the smaller tube and battery box setup for a trolling motor but no motor.

good luck.
