Went there to sign/fill out my police report and decided to fish a bit. Went to the N.E. corner and carried in my tube. Lots of folks at my favorite spot so floated the S. part of the bay and had absolutely no success. At about 2pm I decided to give it up, but then got into some. I caught this guy and another 6. Kept 4 for the next couple of meals. Left at 3:30.

Sorry to hear about your bad news with the loss of your pole. I love to take the kids to Mantua. Keeps their attention while they catch fish. There is always a certain time of the summer when you can go and almost catch something every cast. Is this when the Bluegill are spawning? Just curious.

After reading your earlier thread on the smash and grab I decided to go up to Mantua. I went out to the NE parking lot. Looks like they got some stimulus money. The dike road is all gravelled and compacted. That NE parking lot is a nice facility. I was really disappointed with all of the trash present. Spent 20 minutes picking up litter and throwing it in the garbage can that was right in front of the restrooms. It speaks to the type of people that are using that lot. I can see what you are concerned about. It is made for a smash and grab opportunity and looks like there is an element using it that are susceptible to that kind of temptation.
Nice fish. I got 5 bass and one crappie that night fishing on the west side by the pump station. Not that size though.

Way to go Leaky! That area used to be a favorite spot of mine, but like you said- it is way too crowded these days especially with the compacted/paved road. Sure wish some of those people would clean up after themselves; probably won't happen unless an officer is actually over there doing some enforcing.
