October 31, 2001 The wind has been blowing from the NE @ 20-25 with gusts over 30 for about a week. Offshore fishing is only for those with a very strong stomach. There is no quick end in site to the blustery winds. A low pressure system is beginning to move north off of Central America and the weather forecasters are not very sure of which way it will go. Some of their predictions have it moving across or close to South Florida. With all that said, the Bay is the calmest place to fish. Pilchards were non existent at several of the usually reliable spots, so I netted some finger mullet and it was off to the northern part of the bay. Frustration can be the order of the day in the area I fished, and today was no different. We watched lots and lots of tarpon rolling all around us. We hooked a large jack crevalle on 10# line and it cut us off on some bottom structure. The next one we landed and released. Moving to another area produced a 10# barracuda on 8# line and a cut off from a second fish. As we left the area, several tarpon rolled as if fanning their tails at us and saying "Not today, try us tomorrow". On the way back to the marina, we caught another jack and were glad to be able to get out and fish.

Captain Dave Kostyo
Knot Nancy Fishing Charters
www.rnfl.com/knotnancy
