We started up the canyon to Strawberry for a much needed fishing trip. We pulled into the McDonalds in Heber for the normal egg McMuffin before continuing on the lake. That is when we heard the screeching rim. We checked out the noise and the leaning tire. The bearing was gone and the axle was bent. Yes, it was 6 AM on a Sunday in Heber City, guess how many tire and axle shops are open at that time.

Pulled the boat to the local police station where an awesome officer let us park the boat for the night. We thought we would wait for Checker to open to get some tools and pull things apart to asses the damage. Went back to McDonalds to sit down and eat while waiting. Came back out and guess where the keys to the truck were, ya right in the center console with the doors locked. We had to call our new officer friend a second time for him to Slim Jim the door. Went back to the boat and pulled the hubs and saw the bent axel. No help for us with that. We decided that we had come this far and would continue on to the fishing hole. We figured bank fishing was better than no fishing.

Got to the lake and packed our gear down the hill to the water. Set things up and Jake caught a small planter rainbow on the first cast. I set out several crawdad traps then got my poles ready. I caught one nice rainbow and that was it for the day. The rest of the day was spent cleaning up hundreds of crawdads. Those things were everywhere!!

We headed back to the boat to empty it out and measure the axel, pulled the prop off the boat because we just don’t trust people. My buddy threw the prop in the truck right on top of my new Buzz Ramsey fishing pole and broke the tip off my $100 rod.

Made it back home and then headed back up this morning with a new axle only to arrive and try to put it on with no avail. The shop gave us the wrong size axle. So back down the canyon to get the right one. Finally back up the canyon and the boat is safely at home. One expensive fishing trip. At least we did not loose the wheel on the road at 70 MPH.
