Hey all,

Was just out turning the water off my garden, and was plucking snails out of my carrot patch and had a thought. I figured i'd see if anyone had had this same thought, and/or tried it out.

What do you all think of using snails for bait fishing? I know fish will eat the freshwater snails native to lakes and ponds, but wondered if these big ol ground snails may be appealing. Also, do you think it would be considered introducing an invasive species to the waters or local habitats?

All thoughts and opinions welcome! Thanks guys!

I once had a small pond with a few sunfish in it when I was a kid. We would catch all kinds of things to try to get them to eat it. Of course they ate things like worms and ants and flies. They became pretty bold sometimes, even striking at flowers that sort of imitated large flying insects. And we used slugs. They would strike at them, but then usually spit them out. Who knows... maybe they don't like escargo. I think a slug would have good action that may attract small fish, but I'm not sure about snails. It might look too much like a rock.
