Dad and I took the boat out to Utah Lake for a few hours tonite. Somebody...no comment...got in a hurry to leave, and we forgot the white bass bait at home. So, we had to fish for a while to find some white bass for bait. We launched at Lindon harbor and could only manage some half sincere bumps at Battle Creek. So, we headed for the Bubble Up, where we wanted to catfish anyway. On the way there we came across HOARDS of carp all over the shallows swimming in packs. We stopped and cast some spinners into them...and picked up some small white bass. Perfect! All in all we managed a half a dozen white bass and 3 catfish caught and one that got away. The buoys are completely gone at the Bubble, so we had to search awhile to find it with all of the chop and waves from the water skiers out. A great evening and good fishing. Bugs weren't an issue either.
Thanks for posting your report and pictures. Good looking cat and nice sunset. You said," [#0000ff]We stopped and cast some spinners into them...",[/#0000ff]
[#000000]it sounds like the white bass were running with the carp, is that right?[/#000000]

Yeah the whites were in with the carp. We cast into the schools and burned the spinners through as fast as we could reel them in, and we caught fish.
Do the whites always run with the carp? If they do, any idea why?

The whities are probably with the carp slurping up the eggs (assuming that there are still some of the carp spawning). Perhaps the carp also stir up some food for them off of the bottom. I have caught lots of catfish at Utah Lake casting into 6" to 12" of water where the carp were spawning.
