I'm looking at taking my in-laws fishing on Saturday and was thinking of Rockport so I was wondering if anyone's been up there lately. My sister in-law is 11 and LOVES fishing but her dad has no clue so her catching fish, any fish, is my priority. I don't know if drop shotting is too complicated for her, probably, so I'm looking at trolling for trout with bass as a backup. Any other suggestions of where to go? thanks guys

You might do better at East canyon instead of RP and EC has bass and crappie too. Haven't seen any good trolling reports from RP but one of the guys did say his friend did fair bait fishing there. Good luck.

Its been a couple of weeks but I was there around the 7th of July. I didn't do any trout fishing but the 2 days that I was there we limited out on smallies for 3 people, plus throwing several back. They are not huge but there were plenty. We were using 3" senkos weightless, weedless, in dark green and silver/purple.

I went up to RP a week ago and did well trolling in the early morning with orange flatfish. We caught 8 in a few hours then, the bite went cold. Nice trout 16-18" 25-30' down.

Like Mac said go deep and knock em on the head. 30-35 feet down. I'm installing my new downrigger this morning and I plan on hitting RP in the AM... If youdon't have a downrigger use 6+oz of lead followed by a dodger and what ever your trolling with. I also use a Dipsy with good 30ft results. keep 30+ inches between the weight, flasher and lure... GL
