So for the last few days ive been on a fishing splurge but it's been a bit less then fruitful.

First day my girlfriend and I went up to Echo Res at about 4 and stayed till 10:30 ish. We spent the time at a location at the bottom of the hill which has the rest stop connecting the freeway leaving coalville. Anyone ever tried there? I used a variety of lures and baits including green/yellow/white powerbaits, treblehook spoons? plastic worms and did not get a bite all day. Not even baby nibbles.

Next day I woke up around 4 and drove up to Lost Creek right at opening and fished at the spot maybe two hundred feet from the dam near the first restrooms. We used worms with and without bobbers with zero luck as well. After a couple hours at that spot we moved up the Res a bit to a shady area across the boat ramp stayed there a couple hours without as much as a nibble. Feelin a little less motivated we desided to pack up and go back to Echo this time we went around it all the way to the rocky shore below the boat camp place. We had tiny little guys (3-5 inches) coming out of the rocks and eating our worms but no real fish so after a while we headed home.

Next morning woke up nice and early but decided to just try kaysville pond at sunrise. No bites/nibbles at all for several hours. By the way anyone know what the HUGE cloudy lookin fish are at kaysvile pond? I was told there are no carp there but these things are mammoth sized.

Today was my most eventfull fishing day this week at pineview, but not in the good way. First i went up the ogden canyon (with the waterfall and dam) and found a spot i thought might be productive about fifty feet below the road but maybe ten feet off it. Quite the little rock climb down, got set up and casted out a little above the off limit line. After about a three hours the sun was up and hot and I hadn't had a hint of any living creature so i packed up and started up the rocks to my truck. half way up the hill the rock i thought would support me broke out and took me with it nearly throwing me and my tackle in the lake. luckly I managed to catch my knee perfectly on a jagged rock and stop myself being my hands were carrying my rod, a sack and my tacklebox. Now my leg is black and blue and my reel is broke. FUN [laugh]

So in one week lets see my stats...

$150 in gas, $15 in bait and tackle replacement, broken reel and a very beat up knee and not a single look at a fish period.

So any hints for a maybe more fruitful experience next time?

Well was gonna reread and spell check but got bored [Wink] so congratz on finishing this

Welcome to BFT and thanks for posting. Sounds like you have a string of bad luck going. With the hotter weather, perhaps if you tried Fairview Canyon (already been suggested) or the Mirror Lake Highway you could increase your odds of catching a fish or two.

You guys think those lakes are in Fairview Canyon? [laugh]

There's not a pond bigger than 1 acre in Fairview Canyon.

Perhaps the ponds are that small --- but the reservoirs are much larger.[Wink][laugh]

oh yeah well i guess you dont know very much or you dont know what a acre realy is.. E-lake is over a mile long and 220 feet deep.. i'm thinking that might be over a acre what do you think? huntington is not big but well over a acre same with clevlend.. then ya got scofield, millers flat and joe's valley all of them are a little bigger then a acre as well.

Guess what folks, I live in Huntington. You said Fairview Canyon lakes. None of those lakes are in Fairview Canyon.[Wink] If you check the geography, Electric Lake, Huntington, and Cleveland are all part of the Huntington Canyon, not Fairview Canyon.[blush]

C'mon folks, I'm just yankin' your chain. I Just never understood why northern folks called the "Fairview Lakes" when that just the road you use to get there.[sly]

There's nothing in Fairview Canyon except tiny farm ponds at the bottom.[cool]

Fishing been real slow at Cleveland by the way.[Smile]

i guess it was slow for the power bait guy's tho..[crazy] lol

[Smile]At least you keep a sense of humour about it! Sorry about the fall down the steep hill. Sounds like something I have been doing lately as I have gotten older.

For one thing, you picked a tough time to catch fish from shore, with the middle part of the Summer, most of the fish go deep.

My best suggestion is to try the higher Lakes in the Uintas. The temps should be cooler and the fish a little more accessible.

Good Luck!

I was there about two weeks ago, fishing with kastmasters and spinners. Got a solid hit, but turned into an extended release.

Were you fishing out of a boat? Boaters seem to do a lot better this time of year. Nobody on shore when I was there had any luck.

Hmm... I guess I sort of hijacked the thread, sorry about that MarineFisherman.

haha all good mate

Update- went to Bountiful lake/pond RIGHT at the crack of dawn hopin to grab at least one Channle Cat but instead I was the only one getting bit.

I have honestly NEVER seen so many mosquitoes in my life. And I have never had then so painfull when they stab you. I had five big welts just on my knee that I took a photo of and easily one per finger on each hand.

So just FYI if you are going to one of them Urban Fisheries like Kaysville pond/Farmington Pond/ Bountiful lake TAKE A TON OF BUG REPELENT.

OUCH

But ya gone fishing nine seperate times this week and have not had as much as a hooked line.

0/1 Pine View
0/3 Echo Resevoir
0/2 Lost Creek
0/2 Bountiful lake
0/1 Kaysville pond

pretty Sad! maybe someone should tell me somewhere that a diver is in the water and will stab a cat on my hook for me...

Try some places like Mirror Lake, Trial Lake and Mill Hollow for planter trout.
Bower bait will catch them.

[Note], when fishing with power bait, be sure to use a small light hook.
Add a small ball of bait to the hook and then put the hook and bait in the water to see if it floats before you cast.
If it doesn't float, you won't catch many fish.
You will need a smaller hook or more bait to get it to float.
Now use a sinker to get it down and floating about 15" above the bottom.
This will help you catch trout.

I've visited Kaysville Pond a couple of times and saw nobody catch a fish, very little fish activity and got no bites. I don't go there anymore. Bountiful Lake is a bit better but it's another place I would go only as a last resort just to get some sun.

Echo can be excellent. But the fish there are usually pretty deep. I fish there a lot and typically catch fish from 20 to 40 feet deep. It's rare for us to see shore fishermen catch anything other than sallmouth bass. For trout I suggest getting a float tube and drifting a worm in the wind at about 20 feet in depth. You can put it behind a big spinner or dodger, and you'll do fine. Just drifting along at one half to one mile an hour is all you need. We've caught some nice browns this year, but you need to use Rapala type lures to do well on browns.

I used to fish Lost Creek five to 10 times a year and usually did very well. We usually use downriggers at 20 to 25 feet, but in the morning and evening often did well casting Kastmasters. If that doesn't work, we'll cast tube jigs with a small piece of worm and let them sink to the fish, usually about 15 to 20 feet down. We keep the jigs moving. I stopped fishing at Lost Creek because most of the fish we catch are nine to 10 inches long. Though we have caught rainbows to five pounds and cutthroats almost that big, it's rare to catch anything over about 10 or 11 inches. There's getting to be a lot of chubs in Lost Creek. I would like to see the DWR protect all fish for a couple of years and then make you release everything over 15 inches long to build up a population of chub eating predators. Either that or plant some tiger muskies. Jordanelle is getting bad for chubs, too, but they're all big. A biologist told me the chubs in JOrdanelle are not reproducing, or their babies are all getting eaten. Still I would like to convert that chub flesh to three feet of fishing muskie, even if I had to let him go.

Tell you what man. I am stuck to bank fishing, don't have a car anymore, and I don't have a fishing buddy. I know how to catch the fish and if you want to learn then send me a PM and we'll try to make a day to go.
