My older brother and I used to night fish on strawberry from a tube. But it has been about 5 years since either of us have done it.
Anyone done that recently? Is it better with a full moon, no moon?
Any thoughts would be great.

I have night fished from my boat several times. With few exceptions, the catching has been excellent. I have caught them under a full moon and just with a sliver of a moon. I was surprised that the catching was so good with so little light.

Same day time tactics apply to night fishing at the Berry? I usually vert jig during them in the day w/ tubes/flukes.
Thanks Kent!

I have had my best luck fishing whole minnows either weightless or better yet under a lighted bobber. One can see a lighted bobber at least 15 feet under the water at Strawberry --- which is what happens when a fish pulls the bobber under. I used to net a bunch of minnows and throw them in the cooler on ice and head out fishing. I'm sure that they can also be caught vertically jigging with tubes tipped with minnows, which is the way that I now fish for them during the day, ever since minnows are much harder to come by up at Strawberry.

I have tried with and without an underwater light. I didn't seem to notice much difference in the number of fish that I caught, but it was neat reeling them in with a light shining down from the boat. One thing that I did notice is that at night (when not using an underwater light) that they often will chase a jig of minnow right to the boat. They don't seem to notice the boat as much at night.

Really interesting Kent! Sounds like a blast! Think a fish light would be beneficial or just scare em' off? Thanks for the info again!

Not sure what you mean by a fish light, but as I noted I have used an underwater light that was meant to be used for fishing. I typically have anchored up in about 25' of water, perhaps if I had anchored up in shallower water it would have been more effective. I have had nights when if we went over 2 minutes without getting a bite we considered the catching slow. On those nights we either didn't get any sleep at all or had to reel in so that we could get an hour or two of sleep. I have also had a few nights when the catching was slow.

Kent,
That is rad! Have to go try it out. I have a 4' flourescent fish light I use for Powell. Thanks for sharing your experience. Best of fishin'!

Any advice (what, where, etc) on getting a light? I'd like to try night fishing at Powell in a few weeks

I have heard that BassPro has them. Sportsman's and Cabela's may also carry them. I would try Sportsman's first -- they seem to have a better selection of fishing tackle than Cabela's does.
eBay has a bunch of them:

Might want to try this one called the Bullet Bobber for night fishing.
