Spent the last week up at the family cabin on Bills Island. Went out to Trude's every morning for some fishing before breakfast. The full moon always makes fishing tough up there. Was able to catch a few every morning between 18"-22". Biggest went 3 lbs. Caught most of them with a worm and marshmellow in about 19 feet of water. Purple powerbait did alright as well. Water is 68 degrees. Didn't see alot of fish jumping due to them eating all night with the full moon I'm sure...
'Ol Trude's corn field must of flooded cause every fish we caught was full of corn. Must of been a flood cause how else would that much corn get in the water for those fish to eat?[:p]
I'll post some pics in a bit...

Thanks for the report. Man I need to get a boat. I love Trudes bay but it has been some time since I have been able to get there.
As far as the corn. There is nothing illegal about using corn in Idaho. However, chumming is illegal. There have been many times when I have been fishing and caught fish choking up a ton of corn.
I have heard both ways on the corn issue. Some say it clogs the fish innards and makes it difficult for them to digest. Others say say it just goes right through them and doesn't give them much nutritional value. Either way we should discourage chumming with corn do to the fact that it is illegal and not necessary to catch fish.

I have heard the same thing about the fish getting clogged and dying from the corn. With how many fish I have caught that were full of corn over the years, I find that hard to believe. I would think there would be a lot more dead fish floating around due to clogs.
I've met a lot of nice old timers out at Trude's that 'wash' their hands with corn in the reservoir while I've been out there. Usually using a worm with a piece of corn, or corn flavored powerbait works well out there as well.

I saw a report that hatcheries that used corn on one set of fish and pellets on another didn't notice any real difference in fish kill from the corn. They didn't grow quite as big on corn in the same time period, but didn't have any other adverse effects.
I always assumed that was why corn was illigal in Wyoming, because they feed the fish corn in the hatcheries before stocking them

I make fish feed for a living. I can tell you that corn is not a clogging problem. Trout can digest corn. What will happen if you feed it enough is the meat will turn slightly yellow. Ron

I hadn't thought about it changing color. I know that people complain about mossy fish if you get them when the canals get drained. I wondered about that when the dry bed went out but they have plenty of whitefish to eat and don't have to resort to eating the moss.
Wonder if sweet corn makes the meat sweeter at all.

The corn we used was ground and it was field corn. I know that for our industry we can not use the yellow corn. Who would want to buy a trout with yellow meat?

We planted yellow tomatoes one year. Spaghetti sauce wasn't really yellow, turned out basically brown. Yeah, yellow meat probably isn't too appealing.
Would be fun to do for your own pond though. See if your friends trust you enough to eat something that looks a bit different.

What's worse worms, mellows, powerbait. corn or cutting open tons of fish to see what their full of? Glad we have a place like Bill's Island (The Hill's) so we can relax during the summer and fish like them old timmers!

I agree with it being like the Hills. At first I was going to buy the whole island, but I thought, "What's the point in being an elitist by myself?" so I allowed other elitists to buy some property there as well. Now we just get together and talk about how our investments are doing.
I've been trying for years to figure out how to clean a fish without cutting it open, but still haven't been able to pull it off. Maybe you could post a video or pics of how its done. Nevermind, I'll just go pay an old timer, i mean old timmer, to do it for me.

All right this post has run its course. Time for lockdown.
Thanks
