I'd say head down Sardine Canyon to Mantua. That place is overrun with 'gills. A lot are very small but the big dawgs are in there too.
I was out there hunting bass from the shore on Sunday morning(did pretty well might I add) and the 'gills would swarm my plastic worm when it got close to shore. They're everywhere just toss the ole worm/jig under a bobber in between the weeds(they're pretty thick this time of year) and you wont be waiting long.
Mantua is my favorite skunk-wash because if the bass and trout aren't interested you can usually have a full day of catching 'gills.

Is there a specific section I should aim for? I've never fished there before.

Any where you can find a hole in the weeds. I usually fish the east side where the hill comes out into the lake. Its about a half mile walk from the parking lot on the north east side. However, they're really everywhere in the lake, they can be caught from the dam on the west side where all the parking lots are if ease of access is important to you and the kids.
