Hey everyone this is my first post, this year i've really started fishing a lot, before i'd fish everyonce in a while but now im really hooked. For the most part i can't get out of town to fish so my usuall spots are mcdevit, veterans, and clocktower. Haven't had much luck at the ponds catching only small fish or none at all. Were are some good places to fish in the river? One little hole i found is between Americanna bridge and that diversion dam, yesterday i was using a metalic blue and silver blue fox and i was catching a trout about every other or third cast. It was pretty fun but i wanna try and catch some of the bigger trout that i know are in the river. Were's some good spots and whats the magic lures to use?
Thanks for the help everyone

Best way to explore the river is from the greenbelt. Get on your bike or hoof it with an assortment of spinners (I prefer Rooster Tails or Mepps) and small spoons and stop at every spot you think might hold fish. There are big fish in every stretch of that river, but they didn't get big by being dumb, so you have to put some time and effort into it.
I will give you this advice: Fish it at first light until about 10am at the latest for the best action. Fish it again an hour or two before sundown when it's cooling down. That's when they bite the best, you won't get heat stroke and you'll avoid the inner tube hatch.

That doesn't sound so bad to me.

While I get out almost every weekend to explore new areas the Boise is where I tend to spend the majority of my fishing time. The folks on this board have been great sources of info and advice for me so I'd suggest trying to look up some older posts. As far as finding holes I actually had to dig my bike out this last week to seek out some new water downstream away from the raft hatch and had some really good luck yesterday. I've also found that just floating the river a few times has been an incredible tool for finding spots.
Good Luck and see you out there.

Yeah i try to get out and fish either early as i can or usually in the afternoon from 7 on. The larger fish i usually found in deeper holes correct? maybe thats why all the ones i was catchin were smaller because the spinner stays in the top of the water and doesn't dive down to much. Would a deeper diving spinner in deeper sections of the river spell success? Just curious.
Also is there a size limit for the river? i thought there was and that you could only keep six but yesterday while fishing a guy was keeping every fish he kept and none of them could have being over 8 inches i'd say he caught mroe than six but then again i wasn't paying to much attention. Another thing that really made me mad was two old men just walked up on the bridge and dropped a huge bag full of cans right into the river and walked off, that section by americanna is just rittled with trash and usually i grab some to throw in the trash can but still thats just pure lazy that they couldn't find a trash can to throw those cans away in.

Welcome aboard!
Living in Meridian, I've gone down off of Linder road in the past and have done fairly well but that was a few years back. At least you get away from the floaters.

thats what i like about fishing by the americanna bridge, no floaters. And its easy access to which is a plus but i've never pulled out fish bigger than 9 or 10 inches out of it.

If you walk downriver from Americana you can fish a REALLY deep spot underneath the train trestle. There's a huge brown trout under there that has "save for hcampbell" stamped on it's side. It's a real biggun'.

hahaha okay, ill try it out. Fished agian today i only caught one trout about 10 inches underneath americanna bridge, i was fly fishing today and used a bead headed wooly. Got a few other bites but couldn't hook up. I will definitly try that hole under train tressel. wheres the nearsest parking lto?

Riverside Park is the closest parking spot. There's a small parking lot near the fire station. The trestle is about 300 yards downstream on the greenbelt.

okay sounds good ill definitly try and get down there asap, ill probalby try my fly rod and a spinner see which one works best but thanks!

HCam,
If you fish early try an elk hair caddis. That's one of the peanut butter & jelly dry flies on the Boise.

okay i have alot of those. At mountain view they actualy have a fly fishing class (it was an easy a i also took ap english and bio) and we got to tie our own flies and actually build our own fly rod it'd be great to catch a big fish on my own fly and rod. I've caught a few smaller rainbows but nothing to gloat about.
