Caleb and I got on the water around 7:30 this morning and fished til around noon.
We focused on the upper part of the lake today just to see what the fish were up to there.
Started the trip out on a drop that comes off the large flat up there. Drops from 8 to 30FTow quickly. The fish weren't really schooled up too great but pulled about 10 fish off that spot. All were spots, and a couple being over the 2lb range. All off the dropshot.
Headed into Sylco and tried the grass mats back there throwing topwater. Not one bite over the next hour. The grass looks great back there but no luck at all. Only a few big carp roaming around the area in there.
Headed up into the river about a mile. Stopped at a deep pool of water that is about 23FT deep. Started marking alot of fish... tried the dropshot on em, only 2 takers after a good while... both got off.
Fished along with the current on the beat up rocks, with no success. By the time we were getting ready to leave, Caleb hooks a big one... never got to see the fish but the hook rips out of the fish's mouth like usual emoBang
Took off for Greasy Creek to see if there was any activity in there. Started off around the bridge pillings. Pulled off 3 fish with the shakeyhead. One was a spot, another was just a tiny largemouth and the 3rd was a decent but skinny largemouth that might've gone 2.5lbs.
Fished the bluffs in there a little bit with shakey heads. Caleb catches another largemouth that went maybe 2.5lbs as well.
Made our way into the back of the creek and fished topwater, swimbaits, and the shakey head. Lots of grass growing back in there as well, looks like its either milfoil or hydrilla. Most of it is just under the water. Anyways, not much luck there either.
After another good while being back there we head back out to that drop off we started at. Boated 2 or 3 more spots and called it a day.
Very nice morning especially with the thick cloud cover. Water temps were 82-83F at the ramp, 75F in the back of Sylco, 70-71F on up the river and around 72F in Greasy Creek.
Glad you could come Caleb, hopefully we'll get to go again soon... next time we'll probably focus on the lower end.
