Why MUSKRAT, because it has water repellent features.

Looks easy enough. What size hook? My largest is a size 1 the next smallest would be a size 6 streamer.

I use a #4 streamer, but that #6 could work fine.

I want to thank you Flygoddess. I have the odd hobby of picking up dead things on the side of the road (within reason of course nothing stinky or nasty or anything) to use for fly tying. A couple of years ago I picked up a freshly killed muskrat to my wife's horror. I've used it a couple of times for dubbing mostly, but haven't come across a pattern that actually calls for it. Now I can show my wife this and regain some dignity, maybe [

On a side question, do you rap the strips around the shank?

From the picture looks like you tie the tail on first then wrap the thread up the shank and then tie the head on so it is only attached in two places? For that it has gotta be some strong thread.

The tail is a skinned strip or Ultra Chenille will work. The body is wrapped with a strip of Muskrat about 1/4" wide.
Tie the tail in then tie in foam facing toward the back of the hook, then tie in Muskrat strip. Wrap forward then fold foam over top.
