With the extreme heat wave going around for the last couple days, I knew it was time to head to Parksville and see if any big fish were up to anything.
We started out at 4:15 or so this afternoon and stayed until dark.
Fish were schooling pretty well but getting them to bite was a bit of a problem out on the mainlake points/dropoffs.
We still ended up putting 12 or 13 in the boat on the mainlake, just had to work for them hard. Caught a couple keepers, but nothing to brag about...
Started getting bored of the slow bite catching only small fish, decided to change things around since the water temps were almost to what they need to be for a good topwater bite... got up into some mainlake pockets/coves and started throwing big spinnerbaits. Bite was still pretty slow but managed a few decent spots and a nice 2.5lb largemouth. The biggest was close to 3lbs and measured 18". She nailed that spinnerbait!
Water temps are warmer the further down the lake and cooler up the lake. Highest temp we found today was 89.5F. But found water as cool as 86F on the lower end of the lake. So the water temps are really mixing up and Im sure thats having a little impact on the bite.
We finished the evening off with about 20 fish... not bad, still good numbers.
The only thing good about the heat is it seems to help the bite on Parksville, other than that... I HATE IT!! Had to do some swimming to cool off today... drinked 5 or 6 bottles of water. Just so dadgum hot!
Fish that were caught on the points/drops were caught off mostly dropshots, with a couple off a blade and one off a shakeyhead. Caught fish on 4 or 5 different colors, so it seems they arent being too picky on colors right now.
Fall will be here soon, absolutly cant wait.... here's a few pics. Be safe!
