Took note that the reed bed along the area of the "bubble up" must have been sprayed with plant killer to probably provide more fishing spots for bank tanglers.
Any thoughts as to what doing that will produce??
My bet is, a cheeper, easier, fishing spot to reach on this side of the lake so more trash along the shoreline than can be found at the knolls..

Thought i was going crazy, glad someone else noticed it and posted it. Killed all my duck huntin cover!
I think it's a double edged sword. On one edge, In our opinion, the fishing is slower there compared to last year, but still good. On the other edge, because it looks dead, I think fewer people have stopped and fished there this year. At least when we have been out. so that's ok.
I'd hate to see it become a popular bank fishing spot, just because i am selfish and want it to myself. But it does seem like a really logical spot to put it, access is already there.

[cool][#0000ff]I talked with a sheriff's deputy down there last year. He advised that they would be trying to clean out that area a bit...for two reasons. First would be to improve access to and use of the new little county park down there. Second would be to reduce the cover used by folks for illegal activities...like drugs and "dating". They felt that by cleaning up the area and removing the bad stuff they would allow families to feel more comfortable in using it.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]That spot sure ain't the good fishing spot it used to be. I have not done worth a hoot my last couple of attempts down there. And they have removed all the marker buoys for the water line. If ya don't have the outlet GPSed it is hard to find if there is little or no outflow...or if the water is not perfectly calm.[/#0000ff]

That whole area has been overrun with phragmites, the invasive, feather top weed that is taking over the whole lake, so having some of them killed off is not a bad thing. DWR and the State Lands and Forestry Div. is doing a huge project on the marshes around the Great Salt lake to get rid of them , sort of. They crowd out the native bulrush and cattails, but provide no cover or food for wildlife. Good ridance !!!!
[cool][#0000ff]Yeah, that stuff is nasty. Ditto for the tamarisk.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]When I moved from Utah to Arizona in the early 80's the shoreline of Utah Lake was clean and open. A few reeds and rushes but none of the phragmites and tamarisk that chokes the edges these days. When I moved back in 2004 I was shocked and amazed and how thick the lakeside growth had become. I could no longer even access a few of my formerly favorite tube launch sites.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]And, as others have said, that area between Lindon and the bubbleup used to be a great stretch for fishing for walleyes...and other species...either wading, tubing or from the bank. Now the greenery extends out into the water and the invasive stuff cuts off all access to the waterline.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Spraying and burning turns the area ugly for a while, but the long term results are worth it...I hope.[/#0000ff]

Another bad thing about the current growth around the lake is the fire hazzard that it is. When that stuff dries out, it is worse than cheat grass. It grows rapidly during the wet years, then when it is dry, it becomes the tinder for the fire. Bad, Bad, Bad !!! Ditto to what TD said also !!
