My husband and I recently bought a farm outside of Salem, MO. We have a pond full of these fish. We are both originally from Florida and have only done saltwater fishing so we are at a loss for fresh water fish. Can anyone tell me what kind of fish this is? Sorry this is such a stupid question!
Looks like a smallmouth bass to me. Welcome to the site.

It's actually a largemouth bass. Notice how the corner of the jaw goes past the eye.

hmm... we thought it was a bass but it didn't look right as far as color to me...but that's good to know. the ponds are full of them and they bite within a minute of casting. Guess they're probably happily munching on the 100 baby bluegills we put in there...ha ha

Thanks Todd, I'm no bass expert, that's for sure[crazy]. I figured with that light color it was a smallmouth but I'm glad someone knew the difference[

Small mouth bass and Large mouth Bass the L.M.Bass has a separation on the top Doral fin which the Small mouth don't. Then the mouth being closed the L.M.Bass has it's jaw go pass the eyeball. As for the S.M.Bass it's jaw equal to the eyeball. Then you have the color L.M.Bass has more dark green to lite green with black latteral line on the side. The S.M.Bass is also green but not as much as the counterpart L.M.Bass, plus the S.M.Bass is a bronze color to a brown that is why they are called Bronze Backs. Also the S.M.Bass has the tiger stripe design on the sides.
Small Mouth Bass likes cool water and fast running water and deep pools in rivers and lakes. Also likes and preferr clear water rather then the stain and dirty water. The L.M.Bass likes warm water and falling trees and stumps also slow moving rivers and lakes and ponds.

Here's what I think, the fish looks like it has been dead for awhile. But it has the definet hook on the jaw of a largemouth bass. So that would be a great geuss on anyones side. Hope this will help you ......[fishin][fishin][fishin]

Actually, it was still alive and we released it back into the water.
Thanks for all the info. Glad to know a lot more info on our fish.
