Full Version: Anyone else keep a fish list?

One of my favorite things to do when fishing is catch something I haven't caught before, I don't care if it's big or tiny, game fish or not, if it has fins I want to catch it. I decided to compile a list of all the fish I've ever caught after reading about a guy who caught 1,000 different species. I decided that would be a pretty good goal. However I was dissapointed at how soon I ran out of fish. I'm at 62 so far so I guess I've got a long way to go! I can however say that I've caught fish on three continents, in 5 countries, and 10 states so that's got to count for something right?
Is anybody else as nerdy as I am and keep a list?

I should keep track of the ones I have caught. Instead I keep track of my bucket list of fish that I have not caught yet. I don't have every fish on earth on the list, but some are more expensive than others. For example the peacock bass wont be that hard now that they are prolific in the miami canal system. I will get that one taken care of next time I go to Florida to visit my parents. The Tarpon on the other hand is much more expensive as the good guides want 650 for a 5-6 hour trip. The most expensive fish on my list is the Marlin.

I too have been lucky enough to fish all over. I just don't go anywhere without trying to catch a fish. One of my weird dreams is to catch a fish in central park. I have been there three times now and still haven't brought my rod.

It is pretty interesting to follow this guy and see all the different fish he has caught...it sure would be cool to do that!

These links are pretty fun to read:

I do keep a list of fish I would like to catch. I usually try for 5 different fish a year and get around 3-4 of those. Last year I got four out of 5 and the only one left was a Tiger Musky. It is on the list still, but I have not tried to well this year to catch one. My list is getting smaller as there are not many more kinds of fish in Idaho left to catch.

That's an interesting idea, but not one I'll pursue. I have fished for over 70 years, from NJ to OR and TX to Canada, and am still fishing 4-5 days a week. However, I have decided that I have wonderful fishing outside my front door on Lake Lowell, or 15 minutes away on the Snake River, and have no interest in traveling to fish anymore. Every time I head to Strike or Brownlee I begin to wonder why I've traveled, when I have very good fishing at home.

The grass isn't always greener... even though we always believe it is.
