So here is my deal. I have caught ONE cat in my life and promptly got poked in the palm from the pectoral fin spike when it came out of the Willow Pond. [:/]

NOW, Mrs. Badfish wants to have me figure out how to catch catfish on a regular basis, she pretty much gave me an anytime kitchen pass if i tell her its for cats.

UL is the best option I have within reasonable travel time and being able to get there enough to learn the area. I will be coming out of SLC/Sugarhouse area.

I will be from shore, with the family. i have read here that crawlers and shrimps and such are producing better than other stuff for the time being and at UL time of day does not factor in as much as other places.

I am not very familiar with UL area at all I have fished there twice in my 33 years of utah living. I have a map and can read it. so the requirments i have are short walks to set up area, kids need to have room for exploring while they wait and need to be able to set up chair and such. most days paying for access is not a problem, but i certainly dont mind free access anywhere either.

I think i have gear and technique down, so what is a likely place to start up trying to get some cats?

thanks in advance...

Myself, I'm taking the kids to the Knolls tomorrow morning and I'm hopin the cats will cooperate for us.

There's a pdf file on here about the area. You should check it out.

There are cats all around the lake most of the time. Worms and crawlers seem to attract bullheads more than kats. If you can catch a carp or a white bass and use some of it's meat for bait, both work well for cats.
As well as UT lake remember that all of the community ponds are being stocked with nice 17 to 18 inch cats every 2 weeks. Willow, Sandy, Bountiful, Sunset, Midas, Kidney. You can find more information here.

and when they are stocked here,

Advantage to the community ponds is that they often have playgrounds next to them. Make sure to have a 2 pole permit so you can keep 2 poles in the water while the kids are distracted.
Don't forget the Jordon river either. Lots of places to set up and fish along the bike path.
