I am heading to the Northern end of the state for the next week or two with my kids (5-9) and have never fished Idaho before, any lakes or rivers I should try and hit with them? Not looking for exacts or to steal a spot, just would like my boys to catch some fish, We will be in Sandpoint for a few days then we are wherever the fish lead us until the end of the month. I am set up for trout mainly but bass action would be great too. I just don't want them getting skunked if I can help it. Pointers, tips, advice would be great.
Thanks
Dan

Sandpoint is right on Lake Pend Oreille (it's pronounced Pond Uhray), which has lake trout and some huge Kamloomps rainbows. It also has kokanee and cutthroat, but those are protected. In fact, there's a reward fishery for large rainbows and lakers of any size because of the low population.

Here is yesterday's fishing report from the Coeur d'Alene Press outdoor section. You can also check with either Black Sheep or Fins and Feathers in Coeur d'Alene for more info. Pend Oreille is tough fishing. Priest Lake would be a better choice for macks if you would want to spend the money for a guide. Mike

Thanks for the feedback. We will be checking out the mentioned lakes. We are staying at clear lake for a couple of days. it is on the "Family fishing" link from the forest service. I will be looking into a guided trip for just myself after spending a few days dealing with the kids, mom can watch them while I go fishing. Pend oreille is some big water to start guessing at. We have a couple of Kayaks so small lakes/ponds will be more our speed I am thinking.

I haven't fished northern Idaho much, but when I did I fished at Cocolala Lake and did very well. There seems to be a lot of different species in it, so I'd think you'd have a good chance of catching something there. It is right off the highway, not too far from Sandpoint (a little south).

If you wind up near Post Falls try Hayden Lake. Used to be lots of big crappie......[

We are in post Falls, just in from Cabela's [

] Enjoying some much needed AC after spending 2 days at Silverwood and 3 at Round Lake State park. The fishing was great for the kids. loads of sunfish, perch S&L bass. even a turtle. My four yearold caught his fist smallmouth this morning and about jumped in after it he was so excited! I made him help clean it and cook it, Not sure he will want to keep many more fish after that. Thanks for all the tips and locations.. Love your state thanks for sharing.
