so i was out fishing in the snohomish river today by the bob hierman park, and i caught a few of what i think to be black rockfish, got one about 8 in. it had a large wide mouth,two japaneese fan looking side fins , and was black with some white patches. im just wondering if anyone in the area has caught one of theses and knows if there edible ... or good at lest. i caught mabye 5 little ones, and two larger ones like i said 6-8 in .. any help?

I dont know what state your in, but as far as I know, Rock Fish are saltwater fish,
there is a fresh water rock bass, you cant mistake them because of thier blood red eye, they are commonly called "Red Eye"
some times the fish's scales can be real dark in color they seem blackish...

sorry, these photos dont show the red in thier eyes, but you wont mistake it for any thing else when you see it...
in im washington. the spot on the river is about 15 miles from the puget sound, so im pretty sure its not a saltwater fish, but it does look a lot like the picture posted up there. just with white or silver instead of the gold.

I have seen them various shades too, from silver to green to bronze to gold to whitish...
I am sure it has to be something in the water that makes the color variations but I havent a clue as to what it is, I have seen the different color variations in the same lake.
the ones in the photos here are 11 inches, they do get bigger, but smaller ones will latch on to a hook bigger than its mouth... lol
