Saturday morning adventure, destination Vernon Resivior, Fall is always fun at Vernon, but I was a bit to early I guess, Hit the water at 7:45 am the wind was already blowing! Only my 2nd trip in my new Fat Cat so i am not quite use to it. I learned not to mess with a second pole with the wind blowing. I tangle up abit several times untill I put one pole away. I am determined now to install the electric motor, the wind blew me to the north end of the lake quickly and it took me several hours of hard kicking to get back to the south end where I parked. I just never felt comfortable with any presentation today and it showed with no fish, no bites. It was fun to get out though, I think I just need some time on the tube to get used to it and figure out how to fish out of it. I was using my Bottom line fish finder but I think I need to switch to my Hummingbird, so more mods in store, I also noticed the placement of my rod holders were totally wrong, I have to reach to far out to grab my pole and also my cutting board design really sucked, guess I will have to follow tubeduds method on that one also. My legs will be sore in the morning but I am already planing the next trip.
One question though I notice most of you concentrate on warm water species, do many of you fish trout out of tubes? I am a bit nervous to get to far out on the big lakes in the areas I usually fish in my boat. I am hoping the electric motor gives me more confidence.

Right Here KC5. That is my main species although I have caught Bass of all kinds, Perch, Crappie, Bluegill, Cat....etc.
BUT, I am Fly Fishing only. Got no problem with anyones else choice.
Carp is my next favorite.
I do stillwater fishing every chance (like today[
])
It is kind of what I am known for although I can hold my own on rivers
Got to get you deep nymphing from a tube...it is AWESOME!!!

The wind can be wicked at Vernon. Weather permitting, I plan on taking my tube to Vernon Monday. I have a motor so hopefully I can get on the water this time. Before I got my motor, I just used to anchor by the dam. There is always fish there, but the big browns are in the channel . Got to try Joni's flies.[

At least you got out to fish. I fish the Ocean in my tube and I drift pretty fast, kicking all the way back suck's.

[cool][#0000ff]Sorry about the downer trip. Wind sucks. Even with a motor backup you are sometimes better to stay off the water or find a more protected spot.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]It will probably take a while to get everything set up on your craft so that you can focus on fishing and not fighting your gear. Sometimes you don't know what is meaningful and what is nonessential until you get a chance to try it on the water. It all seems okay in your head but may not work well under actual fishing conditions.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]You are welcome to come visit my tubeatorium and look over how I have my tubes set up. PM me if you want to come by and I will shoot you my address and directions.[/#0000ff]

OR just get a pontoon. Remember, you have to license a motor no matter what it is on.

Whichever you choose to do, either a toon or motorizing your fat cat. You will find that you can increase your distance from the parking lot a little. Not a lot like in a regular boat. A toon does have a little greater distance capability than the fat cat. But then it is also a personal choice.[cool] Hope your next trip is more successful.

It was just one of those trips, the wind was to much, went out later that day to another destination and it was much better other than a few adjustments I need to make with the PVC mods, I can tell it takes a few trips to work out the bugs and tweak things to fit that way I fish. The Tube is fine for what I want, however I did have an interesting episode on the water that night, I was fishing away minding my own business when all of the sudden a couple of women in a rubberraft just about wiped me out, they were rowing backwards and not looking where they were going and ran right over the top of me, totally broke up one side of my pvc mods, luckily the tube held me stable and did not dump me in the water, I don't know who was more suprised me or those to women!
