Promised my nephew that I would take him out for a last fling of the summer before school started. With the nasty storm brewing we wondered what would be good. We were thinking Mantua so I checkedthe weather. A little iffy but saying clear with a little wind. Ckecked into fishing conditions, found that at this time of year it is weed city. Not what I was looking forward to. So checked on two other lakes, Huntington North Res and Newton as secondary. After checking all conditions Newton looked best. Little to no wind with sunny to partly cloudy. Good choice. Got there at 7:30 to fish rising and no wind. Wind picked up a little at launch but didn't last long. Could see the storm to the south blowing through. The wind was on and off all day. We ended up catching a bunch of small large mouth bass on jigs. I should say bassettes, all 4 inchers. Did have a freaky fish come to the surface and pop its head out to say who are you. Tiger Musky. Surprised me to where I forgot to grab the camera. All in all, slow day fishing, fun day on water.[cool] Sorry no pics this trip.

Cool of you to take your nephew out. Anytime on the water is a good time regardless if the fish don't want to bite.[Smile]

My nephew comes from a single parent household so I am happy to take him out. He wants to go again so maybe in a week or two. He loves fishing so it is good. He loves it so much that I even gave him a tube for his 12th birthday.

Its pretty cool to see em pourpose like that eh? If you and your nephew would like some pointers for the next time you choose to come to Newton hit me up. I'd be glad to help any way I can. I live 6 miles from the lake and fish it 3 to 5 times a week so....

[cool][#0000ff]Tigers have been observed doing that on Pineview for several years...usually in late summer when the water temps are highest and the oxygen levels are low. It is not a hunting thing but seems to be caused by stress...maybe getting oxygen from the atmosphere. The fish will not hit anything when engaged in this activity. Once the water temps start dropping in the fall it seems to go away.[/#0000ff]
