I was up around Ashton fishing and decided to go check out the dam area for my first time. I knew they were working on the dam so I was mostly just investigating. I pulled up to the access area and saw the expected signage, but though it was a little misleading. So basically I am wondering if anyone has gone down and fished by the dam since they have been working on it? Also even if you have, does anyone know if it is legal to fish down there?

Don't know but, good question. I usually only fish that end of Ashton Res. during ice fishing.

Yeah, I am mostly interested in the area below the dam.

I know that traditionally the area below the dam is legal to fish until end of october (don't quote me on the date though) then it closes until Memorial day downstream to the Vernon/Fritz bridge which is open year round from there down. The work on the dam may have interfered w/ the area right at the base of the dam, but I have not heard anything about that.

I went a month ago with no problem. We fished the lakeside of the dam and the river side.

I saw a guy climb down a "secret" path on the westside of the dam, down to river. He was real close to the dam and those cliffs are sure steep! If you try it, be careful.

If you want to get to the pic-nic table at the bottom of the dam, it is best you walk down there. The road leading down there is right next to a house on the top of the cliff and the road is really steep. There are some "no parking" signs in a little roundabout, just park on the other side of the road. Hope that helps

Thanks for the info, that is just what I wanted to know. I saw the no parking signs, and figured the other side of the turn around was the place to park. When you were down there did you do any good?

I have fished the pinic table hole twice this year.
1 decent rainbow. We have done much much better on the upper end.
The one thing about the picnic table hole.....it has a bunch of snags. My 3 kids must have snagged up a dozen times each. [:/] They are still young enough that I have to help them, makes it tough to do any fishing.[frown]

Is the picnic table hole below the dam or above?

The picnic table hole is below the dam.
Right now they are doing a bunch of work on the dam and it is off limits.
They are doing a lot of blasting.
If you are fishing below the dam they will evacuate the area before each blast,[:/] I don't know about all you folks, but I think i will just head some place else.

I have no idea what effect if any this is having on the area, but I can't imagine it is doing any good for the fish.
