I am back from exile. I had to leave home when we got a range fire in the valley. I grabbed my packs and left like a rat from the Titanic! I was heading out as my husband ran to get the county water truck, and the neighbors were hooking up plows. I didn't go too far away until I knew everything was ok though.
It didn't get anyone's house thankfully! It came to about 1/4 mile from us and within about 200 yds from our daughter's house. Altogether it burned about 7,000 acres. So when it was sort of under control, I went and did a little fishing and hiking until the smoke and ash settled.
A special thanks to all who gave me some additional stream fishing ideas for east Idaho a week or so ago!! They sure came in handy. Thank you all!
I had some great pictures, but now the card from my fishing camera won't read anymore!!! Poor camera -- I think it is time for a new one. It frustrates me anyway because of its picture taking and write to memory delays. I have to admit though, it has survived being dropped repeatedly, and it even made it through a little dip in the lake! It may not be dead, but it will probably get replaced.
So instead of pictures you will have to use your imagination. Picture some nice brookies about 8 to 10 inches in length in their bright fall colors fresh out of a small mountain stream. You get the idea. Now do the same for some fine spotted cutthroats of about 10 to 16 inches and you have seen my whole trip. Great wasn't it!!!
I would add more details, but I really don't want to hot spot any little streams. I visited some areas in the Lost River drainage and then had to leave there because of smoke from a fire in the Hagerman area. ( This was getting old fast). So I next made a loop from Idaho Falls into Wyoming and back in through to Soda Springs. Both areas had some great streams. I even got a dinner of crawdads from one!
The weather was beautiful and the fishing was great. What isn't there to like about little streams, where the next pool up is a whole new adventure!
I love mountain streams with voracious little fish that are ready to tear apart your dry fly!
But also glad to be home -----
