With the new boat ramp at the bear river, I am going to take a trip with my little boat out there next Saturday. I have always fished it from shore. Does any one have a good idea of how to fish it from a boat. The current is almost non existent right now so I was thinking of dragging bait with my trolling motor real slow to cover different areas. What else do people have that could help.

I fish the bear river in benson from a boat, the best luck I have is with a small side planner with a green and white worm harness and night crawler about eight feet behind the board with a couple small splitshot to keep it down. if you can keep out of the snags the walleye will hit them. I always troll upstream it seems to work better even when the water is slow.

Are you talking about the new ramp down by the BRBR? I've fished the area many times from a boat but never trolled it. I just used the boat to get to the deeper holes, then bait fished with minnow, crawlers or cut bait. Hopefully you have a fish finder so you can check depth or you might mess up you motor prop. Good luck.

I'd second that. I've gotten into some shallows enough to switch to the electric and run shallow. But also found some deeper pools and pockets - especially at the bends.
I've only dropped into the river from the access in Benson, near the church. Just ordered up a couple planer boards, so I'll have to give them a try up there. Them walleye are waiting for me, I know it!
I tried dragging some bottom bouncers, but there are a lot of snags. Many are loose branches, so you can work back, and free up. But others - some real shallow logs to watch for too.
I also tried finding some good structure, weeds, cover - and anchoring up and pitching across and downstream. Hopping the bottom, or under a bobber. Went through a lot of worms anyway.
Haven't been below Cutler, but am planning to try. Ventured from Cache Junction yesterday, found a few kitties. But still aiming to find some of the other fish in those waters.
So where is this new boat launch at?

The boat ramp I was thinking about was the one in Corinne. All I have is a 30# electric motor so shallow water is not as much of a problem. Thanks for the info. I will look for the deeper holes and see if I can drift over them. I am thinking about suspending bait from a slip bobber so that I can keep from getting hung up as much. I will post how i did.

That is the spot that have launched at the most. I've only been up stream a few times but it does have some deeper holes. I've gone down stream the most and it was the best but the current is a little swift once you go past the old boat launch and that area where the trees hang over the river. If the water level has dropped you might be ok going down river but if not, your electric motor will not get you back up the river. Once you get past the second big corner the river slows down and you should be fine. Good luck.

thanks for the info. It is fairly slow right now. earlier this year it was cruising fairly fast but it has slowed down.
