I wanted to thank the people for their response to my questions on Onieda. The campground there is great and found the spot I was told of. We went for the night on Saturday. The wind was blowing until just before dark and didn't catch any fish yesterday afternoon or night. Fish jumping everywhere. Are those carp? Perch? I bet last night 2-3 seconds couldn't go by without hearing another splash. Saw lots of crawdads too, which was pretty cool. This morning was gorgeous and went for a little spin on the lake. Fished mostly a floating jig head and crawler rigged lindy style and caught some carp and had lots of bites. As soon as I put on a lindy spinner I got a walleye.
This looks like a great place and will definately be back.
I will try and target smallmouth and walleye but would love to get into some perch. Anyways, Thanks.

A friend that has been on vacation told me he went by Oneida and it is just a mud puddle in front of the dam. Whats going on with the dam?

It was a week ago when I was up there and I guess someone could say it was a mud puddle around the boat ramp near the dam but there was still plenty of water in the lake although definately nowhere near what it usually is. That was a week ago tho.

They are draining it to paint the gates on the dam. Fishing is GREAT right now. I was just there only could stay a hour for lunch break got 4 eyes 1bass. After the public Mable Grove camp site in goes down to just the channel its so low.

Wow, that's crazy how low that is. I fished down by the dam for a few hours on Saturday, but I came up from the narrows, so I had no idea how that looked. It was slow down by the dam, but I think it had to do with the all the cold rain on Thursday followed by bluebird skies and high pressure. I fished from about 4-7 and caught one decent walleye, a sunfish, and 3 smaller smallmouth. I talked to some other people and they hadn't done much either. Hopefully the warm stable weather this week will get it on track again. One other thing I thought was interesting was that the water is more clear than I've seen it before.

Ya I never done to hott down by the dam. There was another group around where I was that also was catching eyes. It was fun but no big ones yet outta the Res.

Wow, I thought all of the reservoir was much deeper than that. Sure seems like they could come in and dredge some of that out and get more water storage capacity than what they would get in putting another dam in. Maybe even increase the height of the present dam by 10 ft or so would give them what they think they need.

So are you catching the fish in the channel or the reservoir "pond"?

I totallt agree! Be way cheaper and less arguments all around if they "upgraded" the Res. I fished same spot I pmed you about.

Thanks, I was just wondering if all of that was mud and channelized too.

really really suprised no one has picked up any toad smallies yet, indeed some nice ones comming out but ya gotta think big bertha is in there some where

Ya me 2. I've heard they started catching big catfish but not going to stamp my name on those rumors yet. I only seen BIG carp but that's it. I did get a TILAPIA pix in my onieda post that sure was a surprise!

No its only a channel just up from the public mable grove camp ground. The river was down a lot but they are still working on the dam.

I've had good smallmouth days down by the dam, but I think the cold snap had just turned them off. Walleye on the other hand, I think my best day near the dam was five or six small guys. Maybe I'll have to venture up higher if I manage to make it up there again this season and check it out.
