My buddy and I went up and hit the South Fork of the Snake today. We were just bank fishing and hit quite a few holes from Byington to down below the Heise bridge. While we were fishing below the heise bridge I glanced up and saw a drift boat coming around the corner. The weird thing was that there was nobody in the boat. We were hoping it wasn't another accident, but thought we should try to recover the boat. We ended up following the boat downstream another 1/2 mle or so until it got hung up on a gravel bar. Whie we were trying to figure out how to cross the side channel to get to it the sherriff showed up and we helped them hook up and haul it back up to the heise bridge.
Luckily the owner and his friend were both at the bridge and were unhurt. They had stopped to fish a riffle on the first island below the feeder canals. They didn't anchor the boat up good enough and it drifted away. It really is wild how far the boat made it before getting hung up.
Turned out to be a good day, but mostly because no one drowned.
