Had a couple of free hours so slipped out about 11:45 to check on the bass. Not sure what to expect, when these fronts come in can sometimes slow the bite for awhile. Nice overcast day so at least comfortable. Hit first area and started marking fish immediately, and more bait fish schools than I have ever seen. Just massive schools everywhere. Know there have to be some feeding fish around somewhere.

Started a little slow, picked up a couple of schoolers, a cat, and a drum. Picked off another with a spoon when they busted the bait on top. Tried a little experiment, was marking lots of suspended fish along with some on the bottom, so I thought I will just reel up the dropshot and suspend it at about 12-15' over 20' of water. This seemed to work pretty well as I started to get some larger fish right away.

I was getting greedy, and stuck a rod with a dropshot rig and a 3" gulp minnow in a rod holder while I fished with the other rod. Wouldn't you know it, I drifted across a stack of fish and had hits at the exact same time on both rods. So there I am with a fish on in each hand. The one on my main rod felt heavier, so I stuck the other rod back in the holder, and brought the other fish up, it was a Drum emoBang , scoop him up, dump in the bottom of the boat and grab the other rod out of the holder, fish still on, bass about 2.5#. You had to be there, very funny.

About 2:00, I was drifting across the flat with a fair breeze and nice chop, still tons of baitfish everywhere. Really hard heavy hit on the greenie gulp 4" minnow. I am hoping it is a bass, and when I finally get him up where I can see, it is a hog. Really nice 5# + LM and looks hooked very well in upper lip. About this time I suddenly get this tremendous cramp in my wrist/hand holding the rod, and almost drop the rod in the lake. Manage to grab it with my left hand, but let a little slack in the line, one more shake/lunge, and out comes the hook. emoBadLanguage . I think I had an attack of "dropshot/jigging syndrome", Oh well the biguns often get away. All bass but 1 caught on dropshot rig with 4" gulp minnow, and one on a spoon. Fish were on a flat in about 20' of water.

Hooked 8 bass and landed 7, couple of drum, 1 cat, and several yellows. On the water about 3 hours.

Ran into Nauticman on my way in. Hopefully we will get a chance to fish together next week.

Regards, Labman
